"X-Men 3" aka "X-Men: The Last Stand" startete am 25.
(Liev Schreiber, u.a. "Der Anschlag", "Scream"-Trilogie) und das ominöse Weapon X-Programm. Der Zuschauer erfährt,
wer Wolverine wirklich ist. Woher kommen seine Klingen, sein
Adamantium-Skelett und seine Selbstheilungskräfte? Was hat seine
Persönlichkeit geprägt? Was steckt hinter seinem inneren Konflikt und seiner
Rache?
Zunächst kam aber "X-Men: First Class" am 9. Juni 2011 unter dem Titel "X-Men: Erste Entscheidung" in die deutschen Kinos... Ein Sequel dazu soll folgen...

Bleeding Cool meldet... We’ve been looking at what Rob Liefeld and Scott Lobdell were saying at the Amazing Arizona Comic Con last weekend over on the left hand side of Bleeding Cool. But the bit about the Deadpool movie probably deserves to move over to the right hand site. [...]
"They’ve got a great director on the movie, they’ve got a great script. I may or may have not seen some sort of test of footage that would blow your mind if you saw it and go holy crap and that’s Deadpool in costume. Katana swords, guns, shooting people’s faces off and making me laugh. And I may or may not have seen something that looks just like that. And you’ve got what would amount to the first R Rated X-Men movie. Because that script is R Rated.
They may or may not have wanted to shoot eight minutes to see how it would play. And all I can tell you, it’s close. It’s closer that it’s even been to going, or going Naaah, that’s too scary a proposition to make a R Rated Deadpool movie."

[...] we got around to talking about Fox's two successful franchise reboots this year, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and X-Men: First Class.
Rothman confirmed to us that they plan on continuing on from both movies and they're going to try to get both Rupert Wyatt and Matthew Vaughn back to direct once they get the scripts together. "Both of them were really great scripts and so we have to be sure to get great scripts again," Rothman said. "We're working hard on the scripts for both of them, but we have every hope of moving forward with them." [...]

[11.10.2011]
CS! meldet...
With the highly-anticipated franchise sequel, The Wolverine, finally set to film next year, MTV caught up with leading man Hugh Jackman to chat about what fans can expect. While the previous film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine landed a PG-13 rating, Jackman says that a plan may go through that would allow director James Mangold to shoot for two different cuts.
"There's such great temptation to make an R-rated 'Wolverine'," he says, "I've always felt that. I know a lot of fans would like that. I totally get it. If there was ever a superhero that was going to be R-rated, it's Wolverine. However, in the last ten years, I've also met many, many 12, 13, dare I say 10, 14, 15 year-olds who, for them, Wolverine is not just cool, you see it in their eyes. He's everything to them. So my thing is -- which James Mangold and I talked about -- is let's not put it off the table. There's even a talk of us doing two versions, as in finding a way for us to do both as you shoot it, which could be really cool. But you need to have a really good reason to exclude those fans." CS! zitiert Lauren Shuler Donner bzgl. kommender "X-Men"-Filme...
With X-Men: First Class hitting DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow, producer Lauren Shuler Donner has been making the press rounds and has dropped a number of hints to various outlets about her upcoming Marvel projects that include The Wolverine, Deadpool and a potential sequel to First Class.
"It's much more of a standalone [movie]," Donner told HitFix about The Wolverine's connection to 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, "...[We want] to distinguish it from the other one... I'm not sure when we'll start. Maybe summer 2012 we'll start shooting. It's based on Hugh [Jackman]'s schedule, frankly. When he's available, we'll film. ...He's doing 'Les Miserables', and then he has to come and train for us. So it's all dependent on him."
Deadpool, meanwhile, is being prepared in tandem.
"We're working on getting it ready," she continued, "and presenting some things to the studio, cause we're gonna give it a little bit of a different look. It's a different kind of movie. If you know 'Deadpool' ...it's true to 'Deadpool'. So you know, it'll be violent, and outrageous, and funny, and all that."
Donner also confirmed to I Am Rogue that Ryan Reynolds would reprise his role as the title character.
"With Ryan absolutely," she said, "Can you see anybody else in it?"
Also confirmed (to Total Film) is that director Tim Miller is still attached and that the tone of the project will be something very different from the character's first on-screen appearance in X-Men Origins.
"[H]e was treated totally wrong in the Wolverine film and yes we will redeem him," Donner said, "...We have a few more things to do and then it's up to the studio to decide whether we're going to go forward or not."
As for a First Class followup, Donner told Hitfix that discussions have begun and the hope is to have Matthew Vaughn return as director. When Home Media Magazine asked whether or not fan-favorites like Cyclops or Jean might make an appearance, Donner offered only an optimistic tease.
"Maybe," she said, "Let's just say, I hope so."

CS! meldet... Still without a confirmed start date for production, 20th Century Fox's The Wolverine has brought aboard Mark Bomback for rewrite duties. Variety has the update, claiming that the Live Free or Die Hard scribe will take on Christopher McQuarrie's original script.
The film, a sequel to 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine is said to have a heavy focus on Japan, inspired by Frank Miller and Chris Claremont's 1982 miniseries.
Bomback's upcoming writing credits include Jack the Giant Killer and Total Recall, the former of which features rewrites by McQuarrie.
Though nothing is set in stone as far as production goes, The Wolverine will hopefully begin filming in early 2012.

Deadline meldet... James Mangold is 20th Century Fox's and star Hugh Jackman's choice to direct The Wolverine, ending one of the most competitive contests among directors for a major studio film. Negotiations are about to get underway, but I'm told that Mangold will take the helming job on the sequel to the X-Men spinoff film, a post that became vacant when Darren Aronofsky dropped out of the film in March. I'd heard that Mangold was on a very short list coming into this week, along with Warrior director Gavin O'Connor and Brooklyn's Finest helmer Antoine Fuqua.
I've heard that Fox will look to start principal photography in the fall. Scripted by Christopher McQuarrie, The Wolverine takes place mostly in Japan. Mangold most recently directed the Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz starrer Knight and Day for Fox, and before that 3:10 to Yuma and Walk the Line. [...]

CS! berichtet über die US-Kinocharts... [...]
After a record-breaking Memorial Day weekend, June kicked off with only one new movie in wide release. Although Matthew Vaughn's franchise prequel/reboot X-Men: First Class (20th Century Fox), starring James McAvoy, Mike Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, January Jones and Rose Byrne opened in first place with an estimated $56 million in 3,641 theaters domestically. That's less than $2 million more than the original The X-Men, directed by Bryan Singer, opened with in the summer of 2000, which has to be seen as somewhat of a disappointment. The lack of the known cast like Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry may have hurt the film's chances as did the lackluster response to the last few movies despite the movie garnering some of the best reviews for the franchise since X2. It has a long way to go before it makes back its $140 million budget, although it should be helped greatly by the film's international release where it grossed $64 million in 74 countries this weekend.[...]

THR meldet... Twentieth Century Fox’s X-Men: First Class grossed an estimated $3.4 million in midnight runs at the domestic box office in a strong start for the origins pic.
The tally was on par with the $3.3 million earned by Thor in midnight grosses last month.
Fox was pleased with the number, considering First Class is a reboot.
Fox, looking to manage expectations, says First Class should open somewhere between Batman Begins and the first X-Men, meaning $48 million to $55 million for the weekend. Others believe the prequel could gross more, even $60 million, but they concede tracking has been off in recent months.
And if First Class continues to match Thor, it could earn closer to $65 million in its opening (Thor grossed $65.7 in its first weekend).
Directed by British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, First Class has a decidedly different feel than its predecessors. The pic--costing close to $140 million to produce--has drawn largely positive reviews, both from fanboys and critics.
Instead of relying on A-list Hollywood stars, Fox instead turned to a cadre of up-and-coming actors to play the young mutants. Starring opposite James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones, Nicholas Hoult and Zoe Kravitz. Kevin Bacon plays the villain.
Following its midnight runs, First Class movies into a total of 3,641 theaters at the domestic box office.
Overseas, First Class got off to a strong start in France, where it opened Wednesday, and in Australia, where it opened Thursday, although numbers weren’t available yet. Major territories where First Class doesn’t open this weekend.

TotalFilm.com meldet...
The talent behind X-Men: First Class have revealed possible ideas for the next chapters in the mutant superhero saga.
The ending of First Class sets up a potential sequel that will be "even more fun", according to director Matthew Vaughn.
"First Class is similar to Batman Begins, where you have the fun of introducing the characters and getting to know them, but that takes time," says Vaughn.
"But with the second one you can just get on with it and have a rollicking good time," he continues. "That’s the main difference between Begins and The Dark Knight."
With First Class set in 1962, part two could move on to the late ‘60s - a period Vaughn is keen to x-plore.
"1962 is far more grounded in the world of the ’50s," he says. "I think it takes about five years for a decade to really start getting its identity, so the fun thing about this for me would be doing [a sequel] in the latter part of the decade, where you’ve got The Stones, The Beatles, Flower Power..."
There’s also the possibility that the next chapters in the planned First Class trilogy will be set in the 70s and 80s respectively.
"That’s an idea that’s been discussed," admits producer Bryan Singer. "How the characters go through time. But only to a point - they can’t age too fast!"
Finally, James McAvoy says he’d like to see his character Charles Xavier get "really messed up" in the sequels.
"In First Class he uses Cerebro for the first time and maybe it unlocks something in his head - maybe he can’t keep the voices out or something," the actor speculates.
"So in the second movie his journey could be about getting himself out of a mess. And then in the third movie he become... Patrick Stewart!" [...]

A director is now attached to 20th Century Fox's X-Men spinoff Deadpool. The trades are reporting that VFX artist Tim Miller will make his directing debut by helming the adventures of the "merc with a mouth."
A script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (the pair behind Zombieland) has been in development for over a year and the project has previously been rumored to pique the interests of talent like Robert Rodriguez.
The film will feature the mercenary Deadpool, who originally appeared on-screen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, as played by Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds will produce and is attached to star.
Created by Rob Liefeld, Deadpool is famous for his offbeat sense of humor and for breaking the fourth wall, openly speaking with his audience. The script is rumored to take that same approach and will likely be a significant departure from the way the character was previously portrayed on-screen.

"It's too early to call on Japan, I'm not sure where they're at, so now we're finding another director, but Fox is very anxious to make the movie and we're moving ahead full steam to find another director."

CS! zeigt Scans aus dem "Empire"-Magazin und zitiert... [...] Producer Lauren Shuler Donner also talked to the magazine about X-Men 4, Deadpool and The Wolverine.
She says "X4" is in 'active development at Fox.' "We took the treatment to Fox and they love it... And X4 leads into X5."
On Deadpool, she says the film will be "a total reboot. We're either going to pretend that didn't happen, or mock it, which he could do. We're looking for a director, yes. He's very involved, Ryan. He's working with the writers on the screenplay and it is as much as it is ours."
She confirmed that this would be the Deadpool of the comics. "I'm tellin' ya, it's true to the comic. You'll see all of them. You'll see Wade Wilson, the good-looking Ryan Reynolds! You'll see Deadpool in his costume and you'll see the cancer-scarred face."
Donner also mentioned that Hugh Jackman's The Wolverine "will have depth and a dramatic backbone. And yet there's more action in this one than in any one we've ever done. It's such a good script. We have the great Christopher McQuarrie writing and it's very true to the Japanese saga. This is Logan on his own..."

CS! meldet... Darren Aronofsky and Twentieth Century Fox today issued the following statements about the director's involvement in the movie, The Wolverine.
Stated Aronofsky: "As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, it became clear that the production of 'The Wolverine' would keep me out of the country for almost a year. I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I won't be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again."
Stated Twentieth Century Fox: "While we are of course disappointed that Darren can't do 'The Wolverine,' we also understand and respect his reasons. Having done both 'The Wrestler' and 'Black Swan' with Darren, we know he is an extraordinary talent and we look forward to working with him on other projects in the future. Hugh Jackman and Fox both remain fully committed to making 'The Wolverine.' We will regroup and move forward aggressively."

But, Jackman says, "we had a meeting about three weeks ago, catching up as friends more than anything, and he just ran a few ideas by me and my eyes just lit up, because already I think this is like a whole new ballgame - just the ideas, the level of depth, and intelligence, and creativity. In our interview, he referred to the movie as a "one-off," and he emphasized that the film isn't a sequel in any conventional sense.
It's an interesting move, and it certainly separates this from Gavin Hood's movie, and from the larger "X-Men" franchise in general. [...] Shooting on his Woverine 2 begins early next year, he explained, and he’s bulking up: "Expect to see four chicken breasts and a whole pile of steamed broccoli on my plate," he told us. "I'm starting; I’m having my six meals a day." With Darren Aronofsky directing, he says that Wolverine 2 will not be a "usual" X-Men movie: "This is, hopefully for me, going to be out of the box. It’s going to be the best one, I hope," he said, and then paused. "Well, I would say that, but I really do feel that, and I feel this is going to be very different."
Also, Jackman doesn’t think that Aronofsky’s penchant for dark drama is at odds with the big-budget action franchise. "This is Wolverine. This is not Popeye. He’s kind of dark," Jackman said. "But, you know, this is a change of pace. Chris McQuarrie, who wrote The Usual Suspects, has written the script, so that’ll give you a good clue. [Aronofsky’s] going to make it fantastic. There’s going to be some meat on the bones. There will be something to think about as you leave the theater, for sure." [...]

ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype has confirmed that Black Swan and The Wrestler director Darren Aronofsky is in talks with 20th Century Fox to direct Wolverine 2.
If the deal goes through, it would mean he will be re-teaming with his The Fountain star Hugh Jackman on the film that was written by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, upcoming The Tourist).
The plot involves Logan beginning a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is, unfortunately, promised to another man. Since Logan won't take "no" for an answer, it puts him into battle with her father and her samurai-sword-wielding brothers.

[...] "I'm basically going to try and bury Patrick's performance," McAvoy laughed when speaking with MTV News about the project. But there's some seriousness to his words as well, as McAvoy explained that he hopes to put his own stamp on Xavier - until he reverts the character back to Stewart's version, that is.
"I think the fun about these films, when you go back and you either reboot or do a prequel, is you get to see how people became who they are," he explained. "That means that you have to do them differently and by the end of the movie you have to do them the same way. The interesting journey is what happens to them, what changes them, what makes them evolve - not just mutate, but emotionally and psychologically evolve."
"I would suggest by the end of the movie and the start of the next movie, it'll be more like what Patrick does," he added. "Or maybe not. Maybe it will still be in a period of flux, if there is a new movie." [...]

Harry von AICN sprach mit dem Produzenten Bryan Singer über "X-Men Origins: First Class"... [...] he's been working on X-MEN: FIRST CLASS for over a year now and with the looming August 31st, filming date approaching - he wanted to clarify some of what it is they're doing.
First off - the film takes place in the 1960's. John F Kennedy is the President of the United States. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X are on TV doing marches. There is a spirit of a hopeful future that was prevalent in that time. We will see how Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr met - and how they dreamt of a future with Mutant & Human kind. They're going to be in their late twenties. Xavier - as played by James McAvoy will not be in his wheelchair to begin the film - but we will see how he wound up in a wheelchair. I asked if McAvoy would have a nice shiny chrome dome - and folks. We're going to see Professor X when he still had hair. We'll see McAvoy and Fassbender's Magneto formulate what it is they are attempting by creating the X-MEN.
Now Bryan wanted us to know this is not the conventional FIRST CLASS comic - but rather a new beginning for X-MEN. Set in the 60s - Vaughn is technologically inspired by JAMES BOND's tech of the time. The costumes will be far more comic bookish than we've seen before - and while Scott and Jean aren't here - Cyclops' brother Alex Summers aka Havoc will be, as played by Lucas Till.
With January Jones and Kevin Bacon playing Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw - we will be getting the HELLFIRE CLUB. I commented that the HELLFIRE CLUB has always felt like something that it would be wrong to modernize, as it felt as though it were something specific to the swinging Hefner era of the 60s... and Bryan said that's exactly why they're making use of the HELLFIRE CLUB... the dress and the costumes associated with that glorious period of the X-MEN... belong in the 60s. I asked if Kevin Bacon would be sporting that little ponytail with the ribbon - Bryan laughed and said, "We'll see".
In regards to the cast, Bryan was especially excited to land Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast. Nicholas was set for FURY ROAD, but their start date shifted which opened up his availability for FIRST CLASS. Also - Rose Byrne is playing Moira MacTaggert, I liked her in KNOWING. And I think she's fairly perfect for Moira. The cast list over on IMDB is correct (with the exception of the Rosamund Pike rumor).
Looks like filming will begin with Xavier at Oxford University in the 60s. And Bryan is excited that the film is going to have a much more international feel than the prior X-MEN movies. They'll be shooting in England & the United States - and they'll be representing other locales around the globe as well, but would only tell me that Russia (aka The Soviet Union... CCCP) will be amongst them. He doesn't want to show all the cards just yet. But the International flavor will give the film a more James Bond vibe... [...]

Vulture meldet... Insiders tell Vulture that it's come down to two directors vying to call the shots on Fox's sequel to Wolverine: Twilight: Eclipse director David Slade, and Robert Schwentke (Flightplan, The Time Traveler's Wife). Both men have been approved by the studio's brass, and though Jackman will ultimately be the one to make the call after meeting with each next week, a well-placed source inside the production insists, "It's going to be Slade."
As for the plot, McQuarrie's last draft from January has us rejoining Logan in Japan, where we left him at the end of the first Origins movie. There, he begins a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is, unfortunately, promised to another man. This being Hugh Jackman, of course, he doesn't take no for an answer. And, this being Japan, that doesn't go over so well. Soon enough, Logan must do battle with her furious father and samurai-sword-wielding brothers. Wolverine claws versus samurai swords? Truly, a geeky Sophie's Choice.

Variety meldet...
January Jones has inked a pact to play Emma Frost in 20th Century Fox's "X-Men Origins: First Class."
Widespread Internet reports contended that Alice Eve was set to play Emma Frost, although no deal was in place.
"Mad Men" star Jones was among several hires that completes the casting of "First Class," which Matthew Vaughn is directing. "First Class" toplines Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy as young men discovering their powers for the first time, and before taking the names Magneto and Professor Charles Xavier, respectively.
New arrivals in addition to Jones include Jason Flemyng ("Kick-Ass"), who will play Azazel, the father of Nightcrawler, Bill Milner ("Son of Rambow"), who will play Magneto as a young boy, and Morgan Lily ("2012"), who will play a young Raven. Zoe Kravitz will play Angel Salvadore. [...]

Deadline meldet... Add Oliver Platt to the cast of X-Men: First Class, the Matthew Vaughn-directed spinoff that 20th Century Fox puts into production next month in London. I'm told that Platt will play a role called The Man in Black, who is not a mutant. [...]

CS! meldet... BFI's Movie-Con III is in full effect in London right now and ComingSoon.net's man abroad Ben Mortimer has learned that actor Jason Flemyng, last seen playing Calibos in Louis Letterier's Clash of the Titans and in a small role in Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass, will be reteaming with Vaughn for a role in X-Men: First Class. That role will be Azazel, who was described as a "teleporter" during Flemyng's presentation for Jonathan English's Ironclad, but who is in fact none other than Nightcrawler's father!
The character first appeared in "Uncanny X-Men" #428 in a storyline called "The Draco" where we finally learned that Kurt Wagner a.k.a Nightcrawler was the son of the lead of an ancient race of mutants, from biblical times no less, who looked like demons and who could teleport by opening portals into other dimensions. In the comics, Azazel had been banished to the "Brimstone dimension" by angels, but left that dimension to father children, one of them being Nightcrawler. It's likely we might just see Azazel in a small role but if he's in the movie, can Nightcrawler be far behind?
Flemyng told the Movie-Con crowd that like Calibos, his character will involve a lot of make-up and that he'll have a tail, which will be added in post-production.

THR meldet... "Damages" star Rose Byrne is in negotiations to join the cast of Fox's "X-Men First Class," being directed by Matthew Vaughn.
Fox is gearing up for a London shoot at the end of this month and zeroing on the last key pieces of its important franchise.
The movie, whose story line remains under wraps, focuses on Marvel's superpowered X-Men team in a younger incarnation than seen in the previous trilogy.
Byrne will play Moira MacTaggert, a scientist and an authority on genetic mutation. She'll be the love interest of James McAvoy, who plays mutant telepath Charles Xavier. [...]

CS! meldet... Director Matthew Vaughn is currently working on X-Men: First Class in London from where he talked with a few outlets about the June 3, 2011 release. He told Hero Complex that they were forced to change the script for the film after seeing Christopher Nolan's Inception.
"I saw 'Inception,' which I loved," Vaughn said. "But my heart sank when I saw that a few of the ideas we had were up [on the screen]. So it's either leave it in and look as if you're copying or change things. We completely ripped out about 12 pages of the script and the storyboards." He added that the scrapped sequence was a "dream-space combat" that featured a fight involving Charles Xavier and other mutants that was to going to be presented with spinning rooms and other physics-bending imagery.
He also told IGN that he hopes to follow the model of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot for "First Class."
"Obviously [Abrams] couldn't make everyone happy with that one, but he did a pretty good job," Vaughn said. "He made a fantastically exciting reinvention of that world, with those great characters. And I think there will be comparisons a little bit with 'X-Men: First Class.' It's very similar, in a way. But we're doing some cool stuff in this movie, some really cool stuff that you haven't seen before."
He added: "The story that Bryan Singer came up with is very, very smart. It's very clever when you see how he has integrated the characters into the time period where the film is set. I'll put it that way. I just don't want to give it away. ... It's a very clever way of getting these characters involved in recent history, in recent world events."
Shooting starts later this month for the film, starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Alice Eve, Kevin Bacon, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Till and Edi Gathegi. [...]

24 Frames meldet... It's been dizzying to follow the will-he-or-won't-he reports about Robert Rodriguez directing "Deadpool," the Ryan Reynolds X-Men spinoff.
Reports last month that Rodriguez had been offered the director's chair on "Deadpool" met with a swirl of speculation and/or denials from the filmmaker's camp as well as studio Fox. (The most anyone would agree to is that Rodriguez had been sent Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick's script.)
But we're hearing that after a few weeks of dancing, Rodriguez and studio Fox are negotiating. There's no deal yet, and the sides need to agree on a number of key points, but it's moved beyond the casual discussion stage and into the more substantive realm of deal points.
Rodriguez is making "Spy Kids 4," which itself comes after he finished the exploitation action picture "Machete," but would be looking for a big movie and one that can be marketed into a hit. As for the picture itself, the mouthy Marvel mercenary would entail violence and comedy in equal measure, and Rodriguez has been adept at combining the two. We'd pull for a Danny Trejo cameo, though.
[10.07.2010]
Deadline meldet... I'm told that Kevin Bacon has the offer and is negotiating to play the villain role in X-Men: First Class. Not sure of his character, and they have to make his deal, but Bacon would line up nicely alongside James McAvoy (Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Alice Eve (Emma Frost), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee), and Lucas Till (Havoc). Director Matthew Vaughn is casting up a storm as the picture nears the start line.

CS! meldet...
We have confirmed that Nicholas Hoult will play Beast and Caleb Landry Jones will play Banshee in X-Men: First Class, to be directed by Matthew Vaughn. The Banshee casting was first reported by Latino Review.

Deadline meldet... Alice Eve is now in negotiations to play Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class, the 20th Century Fox prequel that Matthew Vaughn will direct. Her power in the mutant universe is telepathy, and she was voted Hottest Comic Book Babe of 2005 in one poll. She started out as an X-Men nemesis and became an ally. Eve joins James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, previously set as lead mutants Xavier and Magneto. [...]

Heatvision meldet... James McAvoy has signed on to play a young Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, in "X-Men: First Class," which Matthew Vaughn is directing for Fox.
According to Fox, "First Class" will "chart the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Eric Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were the closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men."
Patrick Stewart played the character, a bald-headed, wheelchair-bound telepath, in the original "X-Men" trilogy. Fox did not reveal if McAvoy will sport a follicle-free pate.
Fox is moving fast on the production, hiring Vaughn in early May and planning a summer start in London. The movie is being planned for a June 3, 2011, release.
Bryan Singer, who conceived the story for "First Class," is producing along with Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.
McAvoy, repped by UTA and Ruth Young/United Agents, already has comic book movie experience, having starred in "Wanted." The British actor was last seen in "The Last Station."

[05.05.2010]
CS! meldet... It's been touch and go for the last week, but Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn has been confirmed to helm X-Men: First Class, 20th Century Fox's prequel to the lucrative franchise based on the Marvel Comics super-team. Not only have they signed Vaughn, directing his third movie in a row based on comic material, but Fox is confident enough in his abilities to set a release date for June 3, 2011, a little less than 13 months from today.
Basing the movie around a concept by Bryan Singer, director of the first two movies who had already committed to direct Jack the Giant Killer, Fox hired the writing team behind Marvel Studios' Thor, Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, to do a few rewrites on the script with plans to start making the movie this summer. Singer will co-produce along with Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg. So far, no cast has been announced including whether Patrick Stewart will return as Professor Charles Xavier or whether Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine.
The new release date puts the movie in competition against DreamWorks Animation's sequel Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom and opening two weeks before Warner Bros.' Green Lantern.
20th Century Fox has provided ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype with this description of the movie:
"X-Men: First Class, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men."

CS! meldet... While rumors last week said that Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn had passed on X-Men: First Class, the helmer is now the frontrunner to direct the prequel. We're hearing the deal is not 100% done yet, but it is definitely looking good.
The 20th Century Fox project is about the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where their relationship took a wrong turn.
Josh Schwartz and Jamie Moss wrote the script. Bryan Singer and Lauren Shuler Donner will produce.
Vaughn's feature credits also include Layer Cake and Stardust.

HitFix meldet... HitFix has exclusively learned, from multiple sources, that Bryan Singer may not be directing "X-Men: First Class" despite recent press reports to the contrary, and that 20th Century Fox is actively searching for directors to step in and helm the film, with discussions with at least two other filmmakers as recently as last week [...]

SHH! meldet... Scooper 'Narrows101' pointed us to the People's Choice Awards 2010 website where you can find a video of Hugh Jackman, who won "Favorite Action Star," talking briefly about Wolverine 2.
In the video titled 'Hugh Jackman Backstage,' Jackman first says that he's going to shoot the Shawn Levy-directed Real Steel this summer, followed by this: "Wolverine's going to be back. He's going to Japan. We shoot that probably in a year, year-and-a-half, something like that."
Considering the 2011 shoot, we guess that they'll be eyeing a summer 2012 release.

Variety.com meldet... 20th Century Fox is making progress with its "X-Men" spinoff, "Deadpool," and has tapped "Zombieland" scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to pen the screenplay.
Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as the wisecracking mercenary he portrayed in last year's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."
There is no timetable on the Marvel property, though Reynolds has a window after wrapping the "Green Lantern" this summer.
Reynolds has been bulking up to play the DC Comics' hero "Green Lantern," which starts lensing next month. This means he would already be in superhero shape if the script for "Deadpool" is ready by summer.
Reese and Wernick, who wrote "Zombieland," will stay true to the mythology of "Deadpool" given that Reynolds is a huge fan and protector of the property.
The tone of "Deadpool," which features an antihero as opposed to the more traditional heroic comicbook protagonist, is very similar in tone to "Zombieland." [...]

Heat Vision sprach mit dem Regisseur Bryan Singer, u.a. über "X-Men: First Class"... Heat Vision: [...] Do you think the X-Men can exhaust themselves? You've got the original three, you've got "Wolverine," you've got a "Deadpool" and "Magneto" in the works ...
Singer: This story would probably utilize some of the Magneto story because it deals with a young Magneto, so it might supersede that because this would explore that relationship between a young energetic professor and a disenfranchised victim of the Holocaust.
But no, I don’t see an exhaustion. The X-Men universe is boundless. These are great characters. And as young characters, they are quite different than the characters we have seen in the contemporary movies. [...]

Variety.com meldet... [...] Singer told Daily Variety that he thought long and hard about returning to the franchise he launched until he found a storyline that would stand on its own.
"This is the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where there relationship took a wrong turn," Singer said. "There is a romantic element, and some of the mutants from 'X-Men' will figure into the plot, though I don't want to say which ones. There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain."

Wie CS! meldet, scheint Bryan Singer beim geplanten Prequel "X-Men: First Class" Regie zu führen... [...] In recent interviews, Singer has been asked about possibly directing the planned prequel X-Men: First Class, and he always seemed interested, but earlier this evening he let slip that he has in fact just signed the deal with Fox to direct the next "Origins" film, which will reportedly look at the early days of Cyclops, Jean Grey and others at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.
You can see for yourself what Bryan Singer told the interviewer about signing to do X-Men: First Class if you go to the Official MySpace site, click on "Next Slide" at the bottom left and then scroll forward to the 27-minute mark where he's asked about what he has coming up next. He tells the interviewers without any hesitation and complete seriousness: "I'm ramping up to do a movie called 'Jack the Giant Killer' at Warner Bros, and I just yesterday signed a deal to do an 'X-Men: First Class Origins' picture, which is kind of cool. I'm very excited." [...]

Via CHUD gibt es Neues zum Spin-Off "Deadpool"... The Deadpool movie has been slowly, quietly been percolating over at Fox, and recent days may have seen some important developments. While nothing is official just yet, it looks like Fox could be hiring Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of Zombieland, to script the adventures of the Merc With A Mouth. I did my due diligence and asked around but couldn't get a solid confirmation, so regard this one as a strong rumor. [...]

Empire Online sprach mit der Produzentin Lauren Shuler Donner über "Wolverine 2", "X-Men: First Class", "Deadpool" und "Magneto... Zum "Wolverine"-Sequel hat sie folgendes zu sagen... [...] "That's the furthest along of all the X-Men projects on the boil. It's actually the story we wanted to use for the first Wolverine film, but [Fox head honcho] Tom Rothman preferred to set the character up with an origin story first. This movie will really focus on the relationship between Wolverine and Mariko, the daughter of a Japanese crime lord, and what happens to him in Japan. We're very fortunate to have a story mostly outlined for us [from the comic book arc co-written by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller]. And we wanted an A+ writer, so we want to Chris McQuarrie (Valkyrie, The Usual Suspects). He came in and has tightened the story and got really immersed in the whole thing - he's in Japan in his head!" [...]
