The Shark is still working"...
[...] This is the definitive behind-the-scenes on Jaws, even more in depth than the Bouzereau doc from laser-disc days and fans will want to seek it out. Though how they'll be able to see it is still, from what I understand, up in the air. If Universal does the right thing, this will be a bonus feature on the next release, though I'd certainly recommend it as a stand-alone if that's the route these folks have to take. [...]

[09.04.2007] Quint von AICN widmet sich der gelungenen "Jaws"-Dokumentation "The Shark is still working"...
[...] I was able to get a rough cut of the documentary and here are my thoughts.
Of course, I’m totally 100% the target audience for this documentary, but that also makes me a tougher critic than you might expect. I’ve seen so much of the behind the scenes, read Carl Gottlieb’s JAWS LOG and Edith Blake’s Making Of book... I’ve sought out so much, seen every documentary, read all the interviews I could. Would there be anything new for me?
These guys made a film any JAWS fan will be fascinated with.
For one thing, they have interviews with everybody. Steven Spielberg, John Williams, Roy Scheider (who also narrates the documentary), Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gary, Jeffrey Kramer (Deputy Hendricks), Carl Gottlieb, Bill Butler (cinematographer), David Brown and Richard Zanuck (producers) and just about every living face you see in the film.
The real kicker is the producers of this documentary got a huge amount of never before seen behind the scenes stills and footage. Stuff I’ve never seen, stuff that hardly anybody has ever seen... these are home movies shot by locals on the island, stills from the crew, stills from god knows who...
That’s the biggest draw for JAWS nerds like me.
But the interviews are great, too. None of them feel like "Oh, God... I guess I’ll talk about JAWS one more time..." Richard Dreyfuss in particular is hilarious, but Spielberg is energetic, his eyes dancing as he tells his horror stories.
Also interviewed are well known movie makers influenced by the movie, including Kevin Smith, Robert Rodriguez, Bryan Singer, Patrick Read Johnson, Eduardo Sanchez, Eli Roth and Greg Nicotero.
It’s great watching these guys geek out on JAWS. [...]

[14.02.2007] Moviehole räumt auf mit dem letzten "Jaws 5"-Gerücht...
Obviously afraid his childhood’s about to be raped too, filmmaker Kevin Smith dropped one of the heads of Universal an email to see whether there’s any truth to these "Jaws 5" rumours.
The rumour is now shark bait.
"Allow me to debunk. I dropped an email to David Linde to ask if this was true, and he said folks are confused: there's an HD "Jaws" DVD on its way, but no "Jaws 5" straight-to-DVD", Smith told fans on the ViewAskew message board. "And if you can't believe Universal's top brass, who can you believe?"
Funnily enough, only hours after posting the "Jaws Rising" item, I discovered some news in a forum - from about 2003 - suggesting that a spec script called, yep, "Jaws Rising" was in the works. Seems someone has been fed some vintage information... either that, or someone’s still trying to flog their unproduced screenplay. [...]

[08.02.2007] FilmRot.com zitiert einen Drehbuchautor, der "Jaws 5" schreiben soll(te)...
[...] they're trying to rehook people back into the Jaws franchise. They reckon with cutcost CGI being what it is they could churn this stuff out. I told them somebody already was with those Shark Attack movies with the dude out of Starship Troopers. This one guy says "Yes, but they're missing the one thing ours won't be!" I was all like "What's that?" He says "The Jaws title and the Jaws theme! We own them!" No, I didn't tell him that those were TWO things! So they asked me if I'd read or was aware of the Deep Blue Sea sequel script that was out there that Warners are hoping to make a straight-to-DVD series out of. I say no and they tell me all about it. It sounds shit. I tell them that. They agree. They ask me what ideas I have on getting people back into Jaws. I totally had nothing but I pitched it anyway. Pitched them on what I would go rent. [...]
You reboot the franchise. Look at what Warners is doing with Superman and Batman and Sony are doing with Bond. It's hardly comparable, being a fucking rubber shark monster, but what the hell. You forget that Jaws 3 and Jaws 4 were ever made. You bring Brody back. Only this time he's totally fucking frazzled from the shock of what he's gone through twenty odd years ago. He's an old man, he's alcholic and he's fucking emotionally broke. His son's live away, his wife's dead and he's about to be forcibly retired from Amity's police department after decades. Then a shark comes back, starts doing it's shit and Brody pulls himself together and decides that catching and killing the shark will be his salvation. They didn't like this. They were all about the "It sounds dark!" "It sounds unmarketable in the avenue we're considering!" They started talking to me about the straight-to-DVD market being for the teens and primarily young males/females and that they were wanting to focus more on that. One guy says "You know? Teens in peril? That sort of thing?" I reply "You mean like Jaws 2?" Another tells me that Schieder wouldn't touch anything remotely linked to Jaws sequels. They said that back in the early 80s they nearly sued him because he was contracted to 2 sequels and he did one and refused the other and they got round it in the end by him letting them use his stuff in Jaws 4 but not having to pay him a dime! It doesn't look likely for me. Then again my agent is telling me that I was 20th down the line from being offered it so it seems fucking nobody wants to touch it [...]

[29.05.2006] Bei IGN gibt es eine Kritik zum Videospiel "Jaws: Unleashed"...

[13.02.2006] Bei CS! meldet...
Peter Benchley, whose novel "Jaws" made millions think twice about stepping into the water even as the author himself became an advocate for the conservation of sharks, has died at age 65, his widow told the Associated Press Sunday.
Wendy Benchley, married to the author for 41 years, said he died Saturday night at their home in Princeton, N.J. The cause of death, she said, was idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive and fatal scarring of the lungs.
Thanks to Benchley's 1974 novel, and Steven Spielberg's blockbuster movie of the same name, the simple pastime of ocean swimming became synonymous with fatal horror, of still water followed by ominous, pumping music, then teeth and blood and panic.
"Spielberg certainly made the most superb movie; Peter was very pleased," Wendy Benchley said.

[17.06.2005] SharkisStillWorking.com bietet einen Trailer zur Doku "The Shark is Still Working"...

[13.06.2005] Bei B-D gibt es ein weiteres Gerücht bzgl. "Der Weisse Hai 5"....
[...] From a trusted source, one script that is being given very, very serious consideration follows the events that are mentioned in the first film when Quint, Brody, and Hopper are having Dinner on the Orca. Quint mentions the tale of the boat that he was on during the war where alarge group of survivors enter the water and over the next several days and nights are picked off until only a very small number remain to be saved.
This idea may have lost some momentum with Open Water, but the script is still highly regarded and some tests were done about 6 months back at one of the larger water tanks at Universal."

[06.06.2005] Bei AICN gibt es einen Bericht über das JAWSFEST '05, inkl. Gerüchte zu "Der Weisse Hai 5"....
[...] there's talk of a new movie. Benchley said at the workshop that he hears rumors of a new movie all the time, but he's not writing it. "Must be gathering steam because I hear Spielberg and Dreyfuss have discussed it recently...but no, not with me", he laughs. He said they'd probably have the money to make a great looking shark nowadays. NOW this got me excited - Dreyfuss returning for Jaws 5? and Spielberg? But boy, Benchley really should write it I think.
Later, writer Carl Gottlieb apparently told locals that he's heard a Summer 2007 release for a new jaws. [...]

[29.01.2003] Es gibt neue Gerüchte (!) bzgl. "Jaws 5", u.a. bei Creature Corner...
[...] It seems there might be a new 'Jaws' movie in production over at Universal Studios in California. Yep, many years after the atrocious abortion that was 'Jaws: The Revenge', there is talk of a new entry in the giant shark franchise.
The sources that have written in have said that Jeannot Szwarc, helmer of 'Jaws 2', may be stepping behind the camera for the fifth entry (which might be called 'Jaws: The Return' according to one scooper) and that the writers behind the not-as-bad-as-it-could've-been 'Deep Blue Sea' are tackling the writing duties on this as well. One of the scoopers said they've actually been running tests in some of the bigger tanks at Universal to see how it looks. [...]

[19.08.2002] Dark Horizons meldet...
On 91.9 KCSB-FM radio, Lance Guest mentioned that ever since appearing in "Jaws: The Revenge," he has planned to write a new sequel with himself in it, he's just been waiting because he wanted it to be good. Now Hollywood waits, Mr. Guest.
