[...] Go see this film. I think it may be getting a bit overhyped, its definetly not the second coming of movies, but its a solid film thats entertains on many levels. Mystery, drama, and a little action thrown in (especially V's final badass takedown towards the end.) Go and enjoy yourself and make up your own mind about the political stance you think the movie is taking, thats the fun thing about a movie like this, you can discuss and argue with friends about it for hours. [...] V is a constantly chilling and sometimes humbling wake-up call. A rather brilliantly considered one at that: It’s certainly possible to argue the artistic merits of the film. But if one argues what the film is saying, then we effectively becoming one of the very people the film is warning us against [...]

[14.12.2005] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik...
[...] I think this is an extraordinarily important film, but the ad campaign that the WB is presenting at this time will make the film really hated by a lot of people. It's not THE MATRIX. Strictly speaking, V FOR VENDETTA isn't even an action film in the strictest sence. The action scenes it does have are few and only last a couple of minutes. For those having not read the book, V FOR VENDETTA is a brave film that tries to find the truth in our confusing times - what is our role in our government? And how much can we stand up to oppression before it becomes terrorism? It's a film that definitely needs to be seen and discussed, especially in America and Britain, and I hope everyone that has a chance to see it does so and joins the great conversation about what freedom really means. [...]
For Alan Moore fans, let me say this: you're going to be happy. The film is extraordinarily close, in spirit and in text, to his graphic novel. The Wachowski Brothers do not spare any punches when necessary, and many of the sequences that fans hold to heart are there. [...]

[13.12.2005] Harry von AICN berichtet über das Festival "BNAT 7"...
[...] I was not prepared for V FOR VENDETTA. This is the most intense cinematic cry for Anarchy since A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. They made the comic. Alan Moore is a bitch for even thinking of bitching about this. It is fucking PERFECT! When you see them promoting it as UNCOMPROMISED VISION. That's absolutely right. This thing doesn't give two shakes of a pecker what the modern world is going to think. THEY NAILED IT! You never see V's face. The voice - PERFECT. Natalie Portman - BRILLIANT. Everybody PERFECT. Adrian Biddle's last film as DP is a revelation and a revolution! This was my favorite film of the festival. They finally fucking nailed ALAN MOORE! Wachowski's - do WATCHMEN! PLEASE! When this film opens - this will be a political molotov cocktail. Absolutely fucking great! It isn't the action film that the first MATRIX was - but it is easily a vastly more important and brilliant film. [...]

[08.09.2005] Moviecentre.net meldet...
Comic book fans around the world had the wind knocked out of their sails a bit last month when...
...it was announced that the movie of cult graphic novel "V For Vendetta" was being pushed back from its planned November release date - which made sense given that the movie which has the story of Guy Fawkes at it‘s heart - to March next year. No official explanation was given for the delay so, when we had the chance to corner producer Joel Silver recently, we were determined to find out why we have to wait so darn long.
"The picture finished shooting [in London] at the beginning of August... and we‘d hoped to have the movie come out on November 5th," the movie mogul told us. "But it was just not realistic - we couldn‘t get the movie done because there are too many visual effects, there was too much to do. It didn‘t make sense to kinda push it through at that point, it made more sense to finish the movie properly and have it come out in March." [...]

[01.06.2005] Bei AICN gibt es eine wenig erfreuliche Kritik zu einem Drehbuchentwurf...
[...] I'm not at all surprised at Moore's removal. Granted, this is the second draft and there've surely been rewrites (hopefully on the introductory moments with V, especially the monologue), but as it stands the script is not concerned with the ideas Moore had put into play. There is nothing sinister about the government. It isn't subtle and manipulative at all like the graphic novel presented it to be. It is Evil with a capital E, black bags over the head and everything. Pothrero is not the Voice of England, but a screaming voice, devoid of nuance and subtlety, a damning indication of elementary screenwriting by two hacks. [...]

[29.04.2005] SciFi.com meldet...
[...] "[The Wachowskis] are shooting a unit as we speak in Berlin," Silver said in an interview. "It's a very different movie. It has elements of The Matrix, but it's very different." [...]
Silver said that the Wachowskis placed a high premium on making sure the special effects did not overwhelm the emotional content of the story. "I think you're always going to have to deal with the story, the emotional content of the story," Silver said. "I mean, it's what the stories are going to convey and what the characters are doing. I mean, yes, we can do anything with visual effects, but it's not enough just to do anything with visual effects. You've got to find a way to kind of attract the audience and get the audience to want to see the movie, and they have to be fresh and unique and original. And I think if you do that then you can make it good." [...]

The Wachowski Brothers and Joel Silver, the creators and producer of the revolutionary, $1.6 billion-grossing Matrix trilogy, have launched production on the action thriller V For Vendetta, starring Natalie Portman (Star Wars: Episodes I-III, Closer, Garden State), James Purefoy (Vanity Fair, Resident Evil) and Stephen Rea (Interview with the Vampire, The Crying Game) in Berlin, Germany.
Produced by Joel Silver, Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski, V For Vendetta is directed by James McTeigue, who served as the First Assistant Director on the Matrix trilogy.
Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked vigilante (James Purefoy) known only as "V." Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he detonates two London landmarks and takes over the government-controlled airwaves, urging his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V’s mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself - and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plot to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption.
The screenplay by Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski is based on the acclaimed graphic novel V For Vendetta by Alan Moore (Watchmen, From Hell) and illustrator David Lloyd. Originally published by DC Comics as a ten-part series in 1988, V For Vendetta has been praised for its vision, potency and eloquence. Moore is widely considered to be one of the finest comic writers of all time, and has been credited with single-handedly expanding the potential of the comic book medium with his work.
A UK-German co-production between Warner Bros. Productions Ltd. and Fünfte Babelsberg Film GmbH, V For Vendetta will be filmed on location in Berlin and London. V For Vendetta is supported by the local subsidy fund Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. [...]

[18.02.2005] HollywoodReporter.com meldet...
James Purefoy has signed on to star opposite Natalie Portman in "V for Vendetta," an adaptation of a 1980s Alan Moore comic book that Joel Silver and the Wachowski brothers are producing for Warner Bros. Pictures. Set in an alternate future in which Great Britain is a fascist state, a freedom fighter known as V (Purefoy) uses terrorist tactics to fight the oppressive society. He rescues a young woman (Portman) from the secret police, and she becomes his unlikely ally. Andy and Larry Wachowski wrote the screenplay, which is based on the 10-issue comic book by Moore and illustrator David Lloyd. The miniseries was part of the wave of comics that included Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns" and Moore's "Watchmen" and which heralded a maturing of the genre. James McTeigue, who was the first assistant director on the Wachowskis' "Matrix" trilogy, is directing. Filming is scheduled to take place in Berlin beginning in early March for a fall release.
