[20.11.2009] Film Junk meldet...
[...] According to a post on the Frederator Films blog from back in September, J.J. Abrams revealed himself to be a huge fan of Samurai Jack and is now co-producing the movie through his company, Bad Robot Productions. Samurai Jack is also being distributed through Paramount Pictures, which helps guarantee that it will actually end up in theatres rather than getting dumped direct to DVD. Just to be clear, the movie is a "2D/stereoscopic 3D production", which should maintain the look and feel of the original show. The modest budget will be somewhere in the $20 million range. [...]

[27.06.2007] MovieWeb meldet...
Three of today's leading animators have teamed up to form the production company, Frederator Films. According to Variety, their first project will be a feature version of the Cartoon Network series Samurai Jack.
This trio of animators include Fred Seibert, Kevin Kolde, and Eric Gardner. They plan on producing mostly 2-D animated features. All three will act as producers on the various projects that they have lined up.
Original series creator Genndy Tartakovsky is set to write and direct the Samurai Jack film. Other projects being readied for production include The Neverhood, which is a claymation feature based on the DreamWorks videogame. Doug TenNapel, the man who thought up the game, is signed on to write and direct the feature. Frederator Films is also producing The Seven Deadly Sins, an urban/rap themed cartoon that will star Don King's voice.
None of the films have gone into production yet. They are only in the planning stages.

[30.01.2004] Bei CHUD gibt es ein Interview mit Brett Ratner...
[...] Following After the Sunset, Ratner has a number of projects lined up as a director, but also as a producer with his Rat Entertainment production company. These include, "A movie called Josiah's Canon, which is a bank robbery film," explained Ratner. "Money Talks 2, I'm producing with Chris Tucker. I'm producing a film called Santa's Slay that my assistant is directing - David Steinem. It's a $5 million movie. I'm doing a TV show based on my life called Be Chai [S.J.R. Note: Could be B.Chi or Beechai - not certain, actually] for Fox, which is cool. Samurai Jack, I'm developing." [...]

[29.03.2003] SF Wire sprach kürzlich mit Brett Ratner...
[...] he's considering directing a live-action version of the Cartoon Network series Samurai Jack as his next project, despite reports that he'll helm a third Rush Hour movie first. "It's all about when the scripts come in," Ratner said in an interview. "If Samurai Jack comes in before Rush Hour 3, than maybe it'll be that."
Ratner quit the upcoming fifth Superman film this month, reportedly in part so that he could move on to other projects.
Ratner added that Samurai Jack appeals to him because of a mythology that rivals that of the most popular SF universes. "I love things like Star Wars that have history and mythology and storytelling," Ratner said. "It's just a great character."

[10.06.2002] Hollywood Reporter meldet...
New Line Cinema is set to hire Todd Alcott ("Antz") to script the live-action feature version of the popular animated adventure series "Samurai Jack." The big-screen adaptation, to be directed by Brett Ratner of "Rush Hour" fame, will be based on a previously penned treatment from series creator Genndy Tartakovsky. In the Cartoon Network series, Samurai Jack is an ancient Japanese warrior, son of an emperor who was defeated by an evil wizard. Jack trains to get revenge, but the wizard sends him into the future through a time portal. The series revolves around Jack's attempt to get back in time to free his family, battling the wizard's loyalists. "Jack" is being produced by Ratner and his partner, Jay Stern, through their Rat Entertainment banner. New Line production vp Chris Godsick is overseeing for the studio. Best known for writing the 1998 CG-animated DreamWorks film "Antz," Alcott's credits also include the 1999 romancer "Curtain Call" and 2000's "Deadworld." Alcott is repped by CAA, the Radman Co. and attorney Patti Felker.
