[01.10.2008] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Massawyrm...
[...] RocknRolla is every bit as gritty, caustic and fun as his previous BGCs. While not as laugh out loud funny as the previous two, the film is equally as likable with a slew of great characters, some deliciously messed up situations and a through line you don’t see coming at all until the very end of the film. It’s not so much a twist as a slow realization that takes the film from simply being a random collection of cock-ups, snafus and double crosses into a carefully structured game of chess that only one person realizes is even being played. In fact, if this film has one overarching flaw, it is that in building to this absolutely killer ending, many might find themselves left behind by what feels like a completely random series of events and scenes meant only to mimic the kinds of sequences we saw in his previous films.
But make no mistake, Richie is back at the top of his game, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is exactly the same filmmaker he was when he first exploded onto the scene almost a decade ago. This thing is sharp, with a wry, entertaining wit that doesn’t go for cheap jokes - just likable ones. It is a solid, thoroughly entertaining ride that gives fans of the previous two films (and the short lived television series) exactly what they came to see. [...]

[10.09.2008] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Mr. Beaks...
[...] As was the case with Ritchie's first two features, ROCKNROLLA cheerfully piles one contrivance on top of another until the whole endeavor is nothing more than a risible mess of crooks and eccentrics behaving badly. The difference this time, however, is that the director is no longer trying to convince the audience of his filmmaking virtuosity with a lot of superfluous visual flourishes. Whether a sign of maturity or simply a reaction to the rancor which greeted the laboriously tricked-out REVOLVER, it's a relief to see Ritchie reining it in; for once, he'd rather work within the gangster film framework than explode it.
It's strange to praise a film for its lack of ambition, but that's actually ROCKNROLLA's primary virtue. Aside from a couple of bravura action sequences, the film amiably settles for a low-key ensemble dynamic that allows Butler, Wilkinson and Toby Kebbell (as Lenny's drugged-out, faking-dead rock star son) to register as something more than archetypes. [...]

[07.09.2008] Bei AICN gibt es eine weitere Kritik...
[...] What do you say about a new Guy Ritchie film? They're all basically cut from the same mold. To whatever degree you like or dislike his films in general, you'll probably feel the same about this. That said, if you're looking for a film for guys night or just need to pump up the testosterone before a big game or hunting trip or something, ROCKNROLLA is perfect. The cast is huge and the colors, the music, and the London scene all pop more than ever. Tom Wilkinson, Gerard Butler, Thandie Newton and two gay, unstoppable Drago-like Russian thugs really stood out. Tom Wilkinson "owns" London and works to keep the rest of the marginally criminal underground under his thumb, including Gerard Butler and his partner Mumbles (Stinger Bell from THE WIRE). We're instructed that being a proper RockNRolla is to want to combine all the sex, violence, and drugs into one personality and to engage fully in all three. The movie does a damn good job of just that. My TIFF People's Choice Ballot: 3 out of 4.

[02.09.2008] Moviehole berichtet über mögliche "Rock'N'Rolla"-Sequels...
[...] Guy Ritchie and Gerard Butler were on BBC Breakfast discussing the release of Rock N Rolla, with its London Premiere tonight in Leicester Square.
Ritchie: "I actually shot the film with no ending and once it's done, we er.. assess it and see.."
Butler: "It'll be a trilogy, so.."
Ritchie: " Gerry does survive, yes. he was too good looking to get rid of him! The idea was to do a trilogy, so people'll see this one and we'll see how we go."

[04.08.2008] Moviehole sprach kürzlich mit Guy Ritchie über "Rock'N'Rolla"...
Question: [...] How different in tone is it?
Ritchie: Well, it's in the same genre so if you saw this and you saw Snatch, you would suspect that the same filmmaker was behind it.
Question: Any differences? Ritchie: I'd like to think so because otherwise we'd have called it Snatch 2. No, it's a new take and it's a contemporary take and the stories are new, but you can tell that the guy that made those movies previously is the guy that made this movie. That's part of the package. That's what I like to do so it's influenced. [...]

[...] I saw ROCKNROLLA, and it kicked MIGHTY ARSE. And while it doesn’t have the shock of the new, I reckon this is the best of Guy Ritchie’s good movies. And that bar’s pretty damn high. I saw it in London, where it’s set, although the London of the film is totally Ritchiefied. We’re back in Lock Stock and Snatch territory (thank fuck), where everyone has a name like One-Two or Mumbles, and speaks a deranged mockney argot. Come to think of it, they did that in Revolver too, but here we don’t have to deal with Jason Statham shouting at his own ego in a lift for minutes that felt like days.
Anyway, from the moment the opening credits not so much kick in as explode onto the screen - up there with Seven, Catch Me If You Can, and The Incredibles, in recent years - it’s clear Ritchie means business. [...]

[22.04.2008] Bei Collider.com gibt es ein Interview mit dem Produzenten Joel Silver...
Joel Silver: [...] RocknRolla will come out next.
Collider: I actually spoke to someone who said it’s very good.
Joel Silver: It’s very good.
Collider: Are they making a trilogy?
Joel Silver: Maybe... if it works. It’s really good and it’s a lot of fun. I think it’s the best movie Guy ever made. [...]

[06.12.2007] Bei CS! gibt es ein Interview mit Guy Ritchie...
CS: [...] You've mentioned that you might want to do a sequel to "RocknRolla" so what about it makes you think you'll want to do more in that world?
Ritchie:
Just because I like that world, and I think that it's just rich with characters and rich with narrative, so it seems like there's more than just one movie within it.
CS: That deals with Russian mobsters in London?
Ritchie:
That's just one of the aspects of it, one of the aspects, yeah. It deals with contemporary England, so it's all the ramifications of contemporary England and the money that's come there and by its proximity in the world, why it's become what it's become. [...]

[02.07.2007] Wie AishaMusic.com meldet, sieht es ganz danach aus, als hätte Guy Ritchie geistigen Diebstahl begangen...
[...] Announced via press release last week, Guy Ritchie’s latest project, in conjunction with his wife, titled "Rock N Rolla" is a direct rip off of an unreleased script Aisha copyrighted and registered the name for 4 years ago. These registrations predate Ritchie’s rip off by 4 years.
[...] According to published reports last week, Ritchie’s new rip off script is about, "The head of the London mob, which is losing ground to the foreign mob. Thandie Newton plays the love interest for One Two and The Wire's Idris Elba plays Mumbles, the right-hand guy for our hero. Chris Bridges will play Roman, an American who is trying to break into the music scene in London."
Aisha’s script copyrighted 4 years ago is about one mafia losing ground to foreign mafias, a female love interest and a character trying to break into the music industry. It is the exact same story to the one Ritchie and Madonna have now illegally stolen, renaming it "Rock N Rolla." [...]
