FILME A-Z

[20.04.2010] CS! sprach mit Karl Urban, u.a. über "Priest"...
Q: [...] Can you talk about who you play in "Priest" and if you've seen the dailies?
Karl Urban:
I haven't seen anything. I heard the other day they showed the film to Sam Rami and a bunch of execs over at Sony and they were just really thrilled with it. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. I play a character called Black Hat who is the villain of the film. I think that's coming out early next year I believe. [...]

[27.01.2010] Heat Vision sprach mit dem Regisseur Scott Stewart...
[...] I didn't feel like I had a lot to add to the vampire lore when I first read "Priest." I really liked the script, but one thing I didn't want to do was a sexy vampire movie. "True Blood" is doing that. And my vampires aren't going to sparkle in the daylight. What I ended up making instead is a movie about war and the aftermath of war and the sacrifices we go through.
It takes place a generation after the war, a hundreds-year war between man and vampire, and the characters of the priests are like Jedi Knights that helped turn the tide. My focus is how now the vampire is vanquished, and society has moved on from you. You're not the hero anymore, and people look at you like a freak. They won't talk to you. And so we look at what happens after that if you're called into service again. You end up questioning why you made those sacrifices to begin with. [...]

Karl Urban has signed on to play the villain in "Priest," Screen Gems' post-apocalyptic horror thriller directed by Scott Stewart.
Adapted by Cory Goodman from a TokyoPop comic, "Priest" is set in a world ravaged by war between man and vampires. Paul Bettany stars as a warrior priest and vampire fighter who teams with a sheriff (Cam Gigandet) and warrior priestess (Maggie Q) to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.
Urban plays Black Hat, the evil leader of the bloodsuckers who was once a priest and hunter but now fancies himself a god of vampires.
Produced by Michael De Luca, Stars Road Entertainment's Josh Donen and Mitchell Peck, "Priest" begins production next week in Los Angeles.
Culpepper and senior vp production Eric Paquette are overseeing the project.
Urban, repped by WME, starred as "Bones" McCoy in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" and has "Black Water Transit," directed by Tony Kaye, in the can.

[...] "[Shooting is] coming up in August," says Gigandet, "It's a big movie. Paul Bettany and I are fighting vampires. Or creatures. vampire-creatures to be exact... If you wanted to call them something, they'd be vampires. But not in the terms that we think of vampires. They don't like sun and that's kind of the main similarity. Other than that, they don't look like humans. They move differently. When you think of vampires, now people probably think of Twilight. But these aren't like that."
Despite the "non-human" description, Cam's character in the comic is actually half-vampire and the actor went on to say that he hopes (and assumes) that the creatures will still be done with practical effects rather than CGI.
Gigandet further stressed that the film is quite a bit different from the source material, even to the point that he doesn't quite consider it an adaptation.
"I didn't even know it was based on a graphic novel until after I auditioned," he says. "Now, looking at both the script and the comic, they're related, but I don't know if it's based on it entirely. I personally like the script better."

[09.06.2009] THR.com meldet...
Cam Gigandet will star opposite Paul Bettany in "Priest," a horror Western that Scott Stewart is directing for Screen Gems.
Adapted by Cory Goodman from a TokyoPop comic book, "Priest" is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires and follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.
Gigandet plays a young wasteland sheriff who is part vampire. He partners with Bettany to save the girl he loves, the niece. That latter part has yet to be cast.
Michael De Luca and Stars Road Entertainment's Josh Donen are producing along with Mitchell Peck.
Culpepper and senior vp production Eric Paquette are overseeing the project.
The "Priest" deal follows on the heels of Gigandet joining the cast of Screen Gems' "Easy A," a comedic re-imagining of "The Scarlet Letter," starring Emma Stone and Amanda Bynes. Gigandet is playing a third-time senior in high school who still hasn't graduated.
Gigandet, repped by WME Entertainment, is filming Screen Gems' thriller "The Roommate" with Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly. The actor is coming off of winning an MTV Movie Award for best fight, awarded for his work in "Twilight." Gigandet won the award the previous year for "Never Back Down," making him the only actor to win it in back-to-back years.

[17.03.2009] STYD meldet...

In the film, a warrior priest turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. Gerard Butler was once attached when Andrew Douglas was at the helm.
Priest is currently the first horror film to stake out space that August. [...]
