FILME A-Z

Warrior helmer Gavin O'Connor is in talks to direct Sony Pictures' Neverland, reports Variety.
The movie, to be produced by Joe Roth (Snow White and the Huntsman, Alice in Wonderland), Palak Patel, Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin, is an origin story about J.M. Barrie's characters Peter Pan and Captain Hook.
The trade adds that Tatum, Carolin and Eric Bromberg came up with the idea and brought it to Roth Films and screenwriter Billy Ray for the group to develop as a pitch.
Tatum will not be starring in the film.

[11.05.2011] ScreenDaily.com meldet...
Aaron Eckhart and AnnaSophia Robb will star in the dark spin on Peter Pan that was originally set up at New Line as a directing vehicle for Guillermo del Toro.
Ben Hibon will direct the story from a screenplay by Ben Magid in which Eckhart plays Hook, the Captain Hook character reimagined as a tormented former detective on the trail of a childlike kidnapper. Robb, riding high following the solid recent launch of Soul Surfer, will portray Wendy, the lone survivor who leaves an asylum to help in the hunt.
Sean Bean has been cast as Smee, the chief detective and Hook’s only ally on the force. Essential Entertainment expects to kick off pre-sales in Cannes this week ahead of an October start in Eastern Europe.
Sentient’s Renee Tab and Social Capital’s Christopher Tuffin and Martin Shore are producing alongside Energy Entertainment’s Brooklyn Weaver. Molinare’s Andrew Boswell will serve as a co-producer and Molinarie and Social Capital are jointly financing and producing.

[11.03.2011] Bei CS! gibt es folgende Pressemeldung...
[...] Academy Award(R)-nominated actress Keira Knightley (Pride & Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean, Atonement) joins the cast of Syfy's four-hour live action television movie event Neverland as the voice of Tinker Bell.
The project, a prequel to J.M. Barrie's classic Peter Pan, written and directed by Nick Willing, will see Knightley bring to life the iconic role of Tinker Bell, a magical tree spirit whose strength and powers are put to the test when her colony within Neverland's treetops is endangered.
Joining current cast members Rhys Ifans, Anna Friel, Bob Hoskins, Charles Dance, Raoul Trujillo and Charlie Rowe, Knightley will record her role this spring. Neverland will air on Syfy in December 2011.
Neverland is being produced by Dublin-based Parallel Films on behalf of MNG Films in association with Syfy and Sky Movies HD and distributed by RHI Entertainment.
Sweeping in time from the turbulent seas of the pirates of the Caribbean to the back alleys of Dickensian London to a world of pure imagination, Neverland is the inspired origin story of one of the most cherished characters of all time... Peter Pan.
Peter (Rowe), along with his pals of young pickpockets, have been rounded up by their mentor Jimmy Hook (Ifans) to snatch a magical orb which transports them to another world - Neverland. Filled with white jungles and imposing cities formed out of trees created by Dr. Fludd (Dance) and inhabited by a colony of tree spirits led by Tinker Bell (Knightley), this mysterious realm welcomes unknown friends and enemies snatched from time. These include power-mad Elizabeth Bonny (Friel) and her band of 18th century pirates who search for the answer to eternal youth, a secret guarded by a Holy Man (Trujillo). As the fight to save this strange and beautiful world escalates, Peter and his crew consider that growing old somewhere in time could be less important than growing up-right here in their new home called Neverland.

[09.03.2011] Heat Vision meldet...
Sony is in negotiations to pick up Pan, the Peter Pan project that has Channing Tatum attached to star, Billy Ray writing and Joe Roth producing.
The package, which seeks to tell the origin of the flying immortal, went out last Tuesday, generating strong interest. BIdding came down to three suitors and sources said the deal was in the $1 million range.
Tatum, his producing partner Reid Carolin and Eric Bromberg came up with the idea and brought it to Ray, Roth and Roth Films' Palak Patel. The five of them further developed the idea into the pitch, which envisioned Pan and Captain Hook as brothers. [...]

[02.03.2011] Heat Vision meldet...
Actor Channing Tatum, screenwriter Billy Ray and producer Joe Roth are seeking to tell the origin of Peter Pan with a pitch package that went out to studios Tuesday. Not much is known in the way of details, but the project carries the title Peter Pan Begins.
The pitch is the latest in the newest Hollywood development trend that has execs moving beyond comic books and toys and on to classic literature reading lists -- and no one is more at the forefront of this lit movement than Roth.
Roth produced last year’s billion-dollar grossing adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, is in the casting stages of Oz, the Great and Powerful, which is set up at Disney with James Franco and Mila Kunis starring, and has Snow White and the Huntsman set up at Universal with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron in the leads.
Roth isn’t alone in raiding the public domain. Warner Bros. has Red Riding Hood coming out March 11, and the studio just set Kieran and Michele Mulroney to write a script tackling Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
While no one has made any bids, the Peter Pan package is attractive [...]

[23.11.2010] Slashfilm.com meldet...
One of the most striking and surprising aspects of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I was the third-act animated sequence that explains the backstory of the Deathly Hallows. It’s a stylish and appropriately ominous piece of film. Now the director of that sequence, Ben Hibon, is set to direct a "fantasy action thriller" reworking of Peter Pan called, appropriately, Pan.
Variety has the news, reminding that Ben Magid‘s original script was once intended for Guillermo del Toro to direct. (Which we last mentioned when Mr. Magid’s script Invasion sold to Summit. He also wrote a draft of Hack/Slash.)
Presumably this will be a live-action effort; the trade says casting is under way for a Fall 2011 shoot in Europe. (Casting now for Fall 2011? Hm. That’s a long lead.) Ben Hibon also has a background in video games, having done in-game sequences for the crazy Killer 7 and work related to Heavenly Sword. He also directed the short Codehunters.
The script for Pan uses, as we’ve explained in the past, a dark spin on J.M. Barrie’s tale of Peter Pan, where Pan is a villain being hunted by a police captain named Hook. There’s nothing there that sounds too appealing on the surface, but the fact that the script has continued to generate interest over the past few years suggests there might be something more to it than the basic recap would suggest. Film rights to Peter Pan in Scarlet, the official sequel to J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, have been sold to Headline Pictures, BBC Films and the U.K. Film Council, says Variety.
The novel, written by Geraldine McCaughrean, was published this October. It was commissioned by the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, which owns the copyright to Peter Pan.
In Peter Pan in Scarlet, Wendy, her brothers and the Lost Boys have all grown up to become respectable adults. But when Wendy dreams that Neverland is in trouble, they must all find a way back to save the day.

Caught up with good pal - and voice whiz - Corey Burton ["Anamaniacs"] this morning who says he'll be involved a new "Peter Pan" prequel.
Burton, who voiced the role of Captain Hook in the recent "Return to Neverland", says "Tinkerbell : The Movie", will be a prequel to the events of the original Disney classic.
"I think it's some kind of a "prequel", with Tinkerbell having a rivalry with one of her fellow fairies", says Burton. [...]

Wer will ihm da widersprechen? [...]

[02.11.2004] Bei AICN gibt mehrere positive Kritiken zu "Finding Neverland"...
[...] About halfway through the film I decided that every writer should see this movie. By the end I decided every human should. The picture becomes more than about a writer and the family he loves, it becomes a story about what love is, and how it is best expressed. I cannot describe how incredible the movie is. I won't say that to me it was a life changing experience, but perhaps it will be to many in the audience. [...]

The British children's hospital that owns the copyright to J.M. Barrie's classic fantasy story Peter Pan is searching for an author to write a sequel to keep the money flowing when the copyright expires in 2007, the Reuters news service reported. In 1929, Barrie donated the copyright to London's Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The hospital has invited publishers to submit the names of established authors, who will then have to write a synopsis and sample chapter, the news service reported. [...]

Mit vielen Spezialeffekten visualisiert P.J. Hogans aufwändige Realverfilmung J.M. Barries Klassiker. Ihr größtes Plus aber ist der 14-jährige Jeremy Sumpter, der die Titelfigur erstmals authentisch jung und jungenhaft erscheinen lässt. Dustin Hoffman, who co-stars in J.M. Barrie's Neverland, told SCI FI Wire that he filmed most of his role in a morphine-induced daze after injuring his finger on the first night of shooting. "I cut off the tip almost to the first joint after the first day of work," Hoffman said in an interview. "I came home, had a drink and I sat down in one of those deck chairs, and that thing came up and just sliced my finger off. I went and spent the night in the hospital and they did surgery. They couldn't sew it back on, but did what they could and I came the next day. I didn't miss any work. It was the best experience that I've ever had because I was on morphine and I couldn't remember two lines in a row."
Hoffman also bonded with co-star Johnny Depp's father, who could sympathize with his injury. "I come into [Depp's] camper and the next day his father is visiting him - he's a coal miner or something - and I'm showing my finger and his dad comes up to me and says, 'Join the club.'" J.M. Barrie's Neverland is currently scheduled for a November 2004 release from Miramax.

[07.08.2003] USA Today liefert ein Update...
[...] Many think they know the story of Peter, his rivalry with Captain Hook and infatuation with Wendy. But such details as Wendy's divided loyalties between her meek father and the dangerous pirate, roles traditionally played by the same actor as per author Barrie's instructions when Peter Pan began as a play, may be unfamiliar.
"It's mysterious and dark, and has so much bite and wit," says Fisher, who co-produced Gladiator in 2000. "It's the only story where you can go off on an adventure, be victorious over your father and then come back and climb into his lap."
It wasn't until British actor Jason Isaacs prepared for his dual role as Hook and Mr. Darling that he realized he had never read it. "Like most people, I thought I had," he says. "The book is magnificent, quite violent and shocking in many ways, and works equally well for children and adults." [...]

[06.08.2003] Bei USA Today gibt es - neben einem neuen Bild - ein Interview mit Jason Isaacs...
[...] As directed by P.J. Hogan (Muriel's Wedding) in his native Australia, this faithful version of the much-told tale centers on Wendy, not the boy who never grows up. "It's really about a little girl thrown into an adventure," Isaacs says. "She's being raised in a rather repressive Victorian atmosphere with a stiff, starched dad who tells her it's time to grow up. And that's a terrifying thing. So she runs off."
Isaacs adheres to tradition by also playing Wendy's comically ineffectual father, Mr. Darling. "He's very Harold Lloyd. He trips and falls, stutters and double-takes." [...]
"Wendy is very attracted to Captain Hook. He's very cool and sexy," says Isaacs, especially compared with the bland Mr. Darling. "I said, 'Let's have open shirts, sort of Julio Iglesias-style.' " [...]
