Verne und R.J. Die "Over the Hedge"-Comics von Michael Fry & T. Lewis werden von DreamWorks in einen computeranimierten Trickfilm transformiert... Regie führt Tim Johnson (u.a.

"Over the Hedge" startete am 6.

BANG Showbiz senior editor Simon Thompson tells ComingSoon.net that he talked to DreamWorks Animation CEO and director Jeffrey Katzenberg in London. Katzenberg said he is considering a sequel to Over the Hedge.
"We've fallen in love with these characters and there are more stories that I know we would love to tell with them and Kerry (Fitzpatrick) and Tim (Johnson) have already talked to me about what would be the next chapter in their lives which has been a lot of fun," said Katzenberg.
He added: "It will ultimately be the moviegoers that decide that. We're anxiously waiting to see how it does outside of the US but it has been a great success for us in the States already."
Over the Hedge has collected $145 million domestically.

[...] Over the Hedge is an energetic laugher that might earn you some nookie during the car ride home from the theater, just because you had the balls to stand in line with a bunch of chair-kicking six year-olds. Over the Hedge is wholesome entertainment that the whole family can enjoy. [..]

[19.05.2006] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Capone...
[...] The bottom line is, Over the Hedge is note perfect on just about every level. It's not concerned with heavy-handed messages about protecting the forests or the animals that live there; it's not tackling the problem of urban sprawl. The mission here is pure entertainment, and with much thanks to a crazy squirrel, that mission is accomplished. [..]

[...] its not perfect, but its near perfect. Over the Hedge’s one glaring flaw is that it opens slow and weak. It takes about 5 minutes to set up the premise and once it gets going there isn’t a single plot surprise you don’t see coming from those initial five minutes. What surprises you instead is just how in love you become with every little character and just how funny every character is. The humor here is astonishing, taking its time to build - a few giggles here, a full on laugh there, until the last twenty minutes which are so laugh out loud funny that you just can’t believe this kind of humor can come from a family film. In fact, it’s humor so good, it surpasses anything Pixar has done and actually crosses over into the realm of Animaniacs brand humor. It’s sharp and at times absolutely brilliant, without for a minute getting to the Shrek level of "Is this really appropriate for kids?" It is classic, wholesome shtick done absolutely note perfect. [...] I have to say I was very pleased leaving the theatre after seeing this movie. I did go in with mild expectations mind you, but I promise you children will love this movie, and adults will get some good belly laughs out of it. The film is worthy of a big screen screening, and worth picking up on DVD for animation buffs.

[...] the film was by no means finished. Only about 30% of the film was completed as far as lighting and full animation. The rest was very rough color animation and about half of the film was storyboards.
But the parts that were finished were truly amazing! The animation was better than anything I’ve seen DreamWorks do thus far. The colors were brilliant and vibrant, and the backgrounds (trees, grass, etc.) were simply stunning. They were going for photo realism (on everything but the animals) and I think they pulled it off with flying colors. Actually, it made me mad when they switched to storyboards since I wanted to see the next beautifully drawn scene. The animals’ fur was unlike anything I’d seen before - much better than Shrek or Monsters Inc. Animation and technology-wise, this thing was awesome. Too bad I only got to see about 20 minutes of such.
The story is not totally original, but it’s fun and light and quick and is just fine for a movie like this. [...]

Already mentioned were Bruce Willis and Garry Shandling, but besides Sykes, Kirkpatrick said that the following will also be in the film: Nick Nolte, Catherine O'Hara, William Shatner, Steve Carell, Eugene Levy, and Avril Lavigne, who's making her big screen debut playing William Shatner's daughter. [23.10.2004] Empire Online meldet...
Bruce Willis has replaced Jim Carrey as the voice of the mischievous con-artist raccoon R.J. in DreamWorks' animated Over the Hedge, scheduled to hit theaters on May 19, 2006.
In the comedy, based on the popular comic strip, Garry Shandling will be the voice of the sensitive turtle named Verne.
When R.J., Verne and their woodland friends find a suburban housing development encroaching on their forest home, Verne's first instinct is to retreat into his shell and leave, but the ever-opportunistic R.J. sees a treasure trove to be had from his unsuspecting new neighbors. Together, Verne and R.J. form an unlikely friendship as they learn to co-exist with -- and even exploit -- this strange new world called suburbia.
Willis previously did voices for such films as Rugrats Go Wild!, Look Who's Talking, and Beavis and Butt-Head Do America.

[15.11.2003] Empire Online meldet...
If we were to conjure up an animated avatar for Jim Carrey then it probably wouldn't be a million miles from the cocksure racoon that will bear his voice in Over The Hedge. You won't get to see it until 2005 but Carrey will make his animated debut in the film, an environmentally aware adventure from Dreamworks. Being overseen by Sinbad director, Tim Johnson the film is currently in production and we received a full account straight from the horse's mouth.
"We have Verne the turtle, voiced by Gary Shandling," explains Johnson. "He wakes up after sleeping for five months and hibernating through a cold mid-Western winter, takes two steps and walks into this thing he's never seen before - this hedge. It turns out that while he and the squirrels and his other friends were sleeping, this developer has built a hundred homes over half their woodland. Gary teams up with a sort of rascal racoon, voiced by Jim Carrey, who claims to know everything about humans and that's where the mayhem starts."
RJ the racoon soon wins the hearts of his fellow woodland inhabitants as unofficial ambassador to the realm of men. "In RJ we've got a real sort of Music Man character - he comes in from out of town and charms all the other animals into thinking the humans are their new best friends. He says, thing like 'the Humans put food into special cans and leave it outside just for you.' So you've got in Jim Carrey the ability to be a real hustler but with a real smile on his face."
Capturing the rubber-faced actor's flexible phizog is the one area Johnson has doubts about. "It's downright daunting is what it is," he said. "We've actually got to make an animated character that's as good as live-action Jim Carrey. It's a challenge." [...]

[...] "The movie is based on a terrific comic strip. It's about a smart-aleck raccoon [Carrey] who wakes up from a long slumber near a retiring turtle [Shand-ling]. They realize that suburbia has taken over their home while they were sleeping."
Instead of despair, the animals find nirvana. "They can't believe humans are nice enough to put out food for them in giant silver cans!" Johnson says. "They think they've found paradise." Mean-while, he says, Carrey "cons the other animals into doing risky stuff like infiltrating the backyards. The animals think the sprinklers look like the fountains outside the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas. They also marvel at human behavior."
"Jim has a great line where he says, 'Humans feel the deep-seated need to connect, and they also like to sit on their cans. That's why they watch TV.' " [...]

[08.05.2003] Bei AICN gibt es Infos von T Lewis zum Stand der Dinge...
[...] It'll be cgi. Wildly talented storyboard guys and gals are currently grinding away feverishly. My trips to the studio have been mind bending. Truthfully, it's been fascinating and humbling to have such howitzer-sized guns trained on our little creation.
A quick Google on "Hedge" and "Carrey" will fill in the details. The strip is in your paper, or on the web at UnitedMedia.Com [...]

[16.07.2002] CS! meldet...
Variety reports that DreamWorks has signed Jim Carrey and Garry Shandling to voice the 2005-scheduled animated feature Over the Hedge, based on the popular comic strip of the same name by Michael Fry and T Lewis.
Carrey, in his animation debut, will voice the mischievous raccoon and con artist R.J. Pic. It will also be a feature animation debut for Shandling, who will provide the voice for Verne, a sensitive turtle and another of the strip's main characters.
The pair deal with an encroaching suburban development and become friends as they figure out how to co-exist with their human neighbors and exploit their proximity.
The film will be produced by Bonnie Arnold (Toy Story, Tarzan) and directed by Tim Johnson, co-director of DreamWorks/PDI hit Antz and director of 2003 animated Sinbad. The screenplay is being adapted by Len Blum in his first animation effort.
