[...] Bad acting, curious narrative gaps, and unconvincing Native American aside, Killshot is still an entertaining ninety minutes. Even in this state it’s easily better than half the films that reach a more traditional number of theaters. (Traditional meaning more than five.) Should it have been shelved? It’s hard to say regarding the original cut, at least until the Weinsteins release it on DVD (will never happen), but in its current state Killshot is a competent and fast-moving thriller with a little heart, a few laughs, some exciting action scenes, and two and a half surprisingly bad performances. You could do worse, you could do better, but Killshot did not deserve to be Shelved!

[...] This a pretty disturbing film in parts. [...]
A lot of scenes ended up being chopped from the original version (they say test audiences found the plot too confusing) which has left the film with a rather squat 84 minute running time. Scenes to go involved some stuff shot at Cape Girardeau and a subplot involving Johnny Knoxville's role as a deputy.
This is a brilliantly-performed (Viggo Mortensen was originally supposed to play Jane's part - but the former "Punisher" does good!), exquisitely shot (Caleb Deschanel's cinematography is breathtaking; John Madden's direction well-crafted) and very gripping thriller. It's not the best film of it's type, and in some respects, does feel a little tired (we have seen it all before - the Coen's bet them to the punch), but with such divine performances, and divine dialogue (I believe Sydney Pollack and Anthony Minghella both worked on the script prior to the deaths), most'll find it hard to turn from. Really a shame this'll only be seen by most on DVD. But if it's good enough for the twelve other genuinely-good flicks that the House of B&H have produced (hello "Fanboys"!), it's got enough for this, right?

[...] I liked this movie. This is a B-movie, and as far as B-movies go, its pretty good. If you go to this movie with that mindset, and accept that the plot is somewhat absurd, you'll enjoy it and have a pretty good time. Expect more, and you might be disappointed. [...]

[...] This type of dry crime humor is usually right up my alley (think Fargo). But it fails so completely here. Everyone is playing is so straight and the film is shot so straight, that any humor just gets buried. Well, Knoxville is playing over the top. Sigh. [...]

Rosario Dawson (the upcoming Rent) will star in both Killshot and Passion of the Clerks for The Weinstein Co., reports Variety.
The Weinsteins are near deals with Johnny Knoxville and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to join Diane Lane, Mickey Rourke and Thomas Jane in Killshot, the John Madden-directed adaptation of the Elmore Leonard bestseller. Quentin Tarantino is executive producing.
The film involves a couple who flee to the witness protection program, with a gangster in pursuit. Dawson will play the girlfriend of the gangster's dangerous sidekick, a role that went to Gordon-Levitt. Knoxville will portray the FBI agent trying to keep the couple alive.

[01.09.2005] FilmStew.com meldet...
Diane Lane, Thomas Jane and Mickey Rourke may be in business with Bob and Harvey Weinstein. According to Daily Variety, the trio has started negotiations to headline Killshot for the Weinstein brothers temporarily-titled The Weinstein Co. The crime drama, based on the Elmore Leonard novel, will begin shooting in October in Toronto.
Hossein Amini, who landed an Academy Award nomination for adapting The Wings of the Dove, will adapt the Leonard novel. The story centers on a real estate agent (Lane) and her husband (Jane) who get involved in an extortion scheme gone wrong that lands them in the Witness Protection Program...and as one of the main targets for a hit man. Rourke will play on of the hit men.
Oscar-nominated director John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) will be joined by five-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer Caleb Deschanel (The Passion of the Christ) on Killshot, which will be produced by Richard Gladstein's Film Colony and executive produced by Quentin Tarantino.
