[...] Hence, the two sides of Igor -- the dark humor and the safe plot -- never meet. I'd probably recommend the film to families who wanted to and were ready to see it, but with the warning that it's a dividing experience. Kids may actually get the short end of the stick, since they're essentially seeing the same film as Kung Fu Panda, but not as good. Parents will get all the laughs, but kids may not get the jokes.

[21.09.2008] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Capone...
[...] I dug that the film attempted to be dark. For instance, the inclusion of a major character who is always trying to commit suicide is actually pretty great (he's immortal, so his perpetual, depression-driven attempts at self-inflicted death are successful but never permanent). But when you have such phenomenal works in the world like A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and CORPSE BRIDE, a film like Igor doesn't really stand a chance. Still, the film has some clever ideas and a few funny moments. [...]

[18.09.2008] Bei DreadCentral.com gibt es, neben einem Video-Interview mit dem Drehbuchautor und Regisseur, eine Kritik zum Film (5/5)...
[...] With nearly non-stop laughs from an amazing cast, an excellently written, thoroughly surprising story line with images you never thought you’d see in an animated feature before and top notch animation, there is no way you can lose. Igor is Nightmare Before Christmas’ dorky little brother and I’m certain will hold up just as well in the years to come. You wanted something different on the big screen amid the countless remakes and big budget blow-ups? Here you go! Be sure to get out there opening weekend and show them it was all worth it.

[22.04.2008] CS! berichtet über die "Igor" Trailer-Premiere auf der New York Comic-Con...
[...] From the start of the New York Comic-Con's Igor panel, you can really see the passion both McKenna and Leondis have for their characters and the film as a whole. They seem to be heavily influenced by "Looney Tunes" characters and adventures. The film stars John Cusack as our hero Igor. Steve Buscemi plays the character of Scamper, Igor's rabbit sidekick whom McKenna promises to be "Bugs Bunny in reverse." (From the trailer, Scamper promises to be my favorite!) Sean Hayes plays Igor's other failed creation who becomes an assistant named "Brain." Eddie Izzard plays the super rock star status scientist Dr. Schadenfreude. Jennifer Coolidge, John Cleese, Molly Shannon, Jay Leno, Arsenio Hall and James Lipton all lend their voices in what looks to be an incredibly fun film. Also noted from the panel discussion, composer Peter Doyle has been given the task of creating a dark yet fun score to go along with the images on screen.
As a chance to get the fan base involved, Leondis talked about the "Be An Igor" contest where one lucky winner will get the chance to lend their voice for the roll of one of Igor's fellow hunchbacks. More information can be found at BeAnIgor.com.
The story of Igor and his monster is one that has not been told in the animated kids genre. From the trailer and panel, the characters appear to be funny, dark, subvert and memorable. [...]

[29.03.2007] HollywoodReporter.com meldet...

"Igor" centers on a mad scientist's hunchbacked lab assistant Igor, who has big dreams of becoming a scientist and winning first place at the annual Evil Science Fair. It will be distributed domestically by the Weinstein Co., which also has secured rights in most foreign territories. Weinstein Co. will be selling "Igor" at next month's American Film Market. Award-winning animation veteran Tony Leondis has been attached to direct Exodus Film Group's CG-animated feature comedy Igor, announced Exodus' president John D. Eraklis. Leondis' credits include Disney's Home on the Range, DreamWorks' The Prince of Egypt and The Road to El Dorado, and DisneyToon Studios' Kronk's New Groove and Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has A Glitch.
A playfully irreverent comedy which brings a new twist to the classic monster genre, Igor is the story of a mad scientist's hunchbacked lab assistant who has big dreams of becoming a scientist in his own right and winning the coveted first place award at the annual Evil Science Fair.
"Tony's diverse creative talents are a perfect match for 'Igor,'" said Max Howard, executive producer. "His vast arrays of animation experience as a writer, director and storyboard artist are key ingredients to making the film a success." [...]

[20.07.2006] Bei CS! gibt es Bilder der Hauptcharaktere...
[...] Slater (Windtalkers, Untamed Heart) is lending his voice in the title role of Igor, Dr. Glickenstein's hunchbacked lab assistant; Buscemi (Charlotte's Web, Fargo) will voice "Scamper," a super intelligent and ill-tempered lab rabbit; with Cleese ("Shrek" 2 & 3, A Fish Called Wanda) voicing the character of "Dr. Glickenstein," Igor's evil master.
With a hunch on his back and a Yes Masters degree in Servitude, Slater's character, "Igor," is the lab assistant to the cruel Dr. Glickenstein. But Igor isn't like other Igors. He has big dreams. dreams of becoming a Mad Scientist himself and of winning the Evil Science Fair.
Buscemi's character, "Scamper," is Dr. Glickenstein's genetically altered lab rabbit who is surreptitiously brought back to life by Igor after an unfortunate run-in with a fast-moving carriage. While infinitely smarter than the others, Scamper wallows in a pessimistic gloom and remains self-conscious of the conspicuous tire tread left across his belly.
Cleese's character, "Dr. Glickenstein," is a cruel and malevolent mad scientist and Igor's unforgiving master. A condescending egomaniac, he constantly torments Igor and ridicules his ideas. Dr. Glickenstein is quick to remind Igor that he's not here to think, but to follow orders and serve his master. [...]

The Weinstein Company has picked up North American distribution rights to Exodus Film Group's upcoming CG-animated comedy Igor, reports Variety.
Written by Chris McKenna, Igor is a twist on the monster genre, following a mad scientist's hunchbacked lab assistant who has big dreams of winning the Evil Science Fair.
The film will expand on Exodus' upcoming animated short Igor: Unholy Frijoles. The short features such voice talent as Christian Slater in the lead role, with Jay Leno, Steve Buscemi and John Cleese supporting.
No cast or director is set for the feature-length Igor, which is in pre-production.
The Weinstein Company has a number of other animated projects in its pipeline, including Hood vs. Evil (the Hoodwinked sequel), Doogal, Opus, The Cricket in Times Square and the CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The film, which is currently in production, precedes the feature-length theatrical version Igor, due out in 2007. Igor is being executive produced by seasoned animation executive Max Howard, who has collaborated on such animated blockbusters as Disney's Lion King and Aladdin, and Warner Bros.' Space Jam and "The Iron Giant."

Emmy winner Fil Barlow is directing the short. Slater and Exodus are represented by ICM, Buscemi by WMA, and Cleese by CAA.
