[10.07.2009] STYD sprach mit Eli Roth, u.a. über "Hostel 3"...
[...] you won't be seeing him making any more "Hostel" movies, and he's no way involved with the plans to make a direct-to-DVD 3-quel to his best-known film. "That's another one like 'Cabin Fever 2,'" he told us. "The studio had made a lot of money with it so they want to keep going, and the fans, there's demand for it, and great. If I started something and other people want to continue it, go for it. I'm just not involved in anyway. There's no negativity about it. I just said, 'I put everything in my life for three years into these movies. I've said everything I have to say with it. I feel very lucky I got to make them and the fans responded the way they did, and if you guys want to continue it, great, go ahead.'"
"I think if it's a great movie, what's wrong with a great movie, whether it's #1, 2, 3, 4?" he mused when asked whether the reception to Hostel: Part II turned him off to sequels. "I remember I loved 'Friday the 13th Part IV. I didn't expect that movie to be that great. I remember loving 'Nightmare on Elm Street III', going 'Wow, I had no idea' and then of course now, it's like, 'Oh yeah, Frank Darabont and Chuck Russell, of course.' But I'm all for sequels, as long as it's a well-made movie, I don't care if it's a sequel, a prequel, a remake or an original film. If it's well-made film and it's entertaining and I got my money's worth, then I love it, I'm all for it." [...]

[23.06.2007] B-D berichtet über "Hostel 3"...
Eli Roth will NOT write or direct. Before Lionsgate and Sony Screen Gems' HOSTEL: PART II arrived in theaters, there was talk of a third film being made, but after the sequel was released everything went silent. We have now confirmed rumors this weekend that production is gearing up early talks have officially begun for Hostel: Part III, the sequel to Eli Roth's torture series that puts American tourists in peril during their trip to Europe. No word yet on how involved Roth might be, or whether the sequel will hit theaters or go direct-to-video. We'll update you as soon as we have more information.

[...] Sony also opened Lionsgate's production of "Hostel: Part II" during the weekend in two markets. Writer-director Eli Roth's grisly horror sequel managed an estimated $465,000 from 140 screens in Australia and Argentina. Openings this weekend in Germany, Spain, Sweden, Austria and Colombia should provide meatier numbers. [...]

[06.06.2007] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik zu "Hostel: Part II"...
[...] When reviewing the first, I joked that you could almost smell Eli while watching it. It was rife with his humor, his love of women, gore, his love of women's body parts, his love of women's body parts covered in gore. The "Fratboy" Eli Roth was all over that film. But this film feels different tonally. It feels a hell of a lot more mature. Eli's heard the criticism and has set out to make some very serious horror fare. Not to say that this isn't fun. Just that it's going to be a lot harder to assail about the weaknesses that many have accused Eli of having. So if you were somehow on the fence, I'm gonna say this one will probably bring you on over. Otherwise, you already probably know how you're going to feel about this.
Highly Recommended for anyone that enjoyed Hostel. Not recommended for those that didn't. It really doesn't get much plainer than that. [...]

[04.06.2007] Bei AICN gibt es ein Interview mit Eli Roth...
[...] it's the readers, the fans that made HOSTEL really send a strong message to Hollywood when a little $4 million movie knocked out the $200 million lion off the number one spot, and we really went out there to make a better film. And I do think that this ending will be that scene. I don't care how much money people spend on movie stars or special effects, I don't think they're going to come close to the reaction that the end of HOSTEL: PART II is going to get. I think it's going to be that movie moment of the summer, and I think it will go down as one of the best horror movie kills. [...]

[03.06.2007] Bei AICN gibt es den zweiten Teil eines "Hostel: Part II"-Setberichts... Ausserdem gibt es bei AICN eine Filmkritik zum Sequel von Leckomaniac...
[...] As expected, the gore is top notch, the kills are inventive and fun, there are tits, lots of cock (the ladies loved that), and some pretty awesome humor.
Hostel: Part Two is the logical next installment for this franchise. It isn't like normal horror movie sequels, which basically make the same film over and over...this gives the audience what they want without feeling like it is just more of the same. Basically, if you enjoyed Hostel or Cabin Fever at all...you'll really enjoy Hostel: Part Two. End of story. [...]

[...] Will there be a Hostel III?
Eli:
Right now there’s none. I’m done with it. I’m very proud of it and I feel like I’ve told all the story. Then again, I didn’t plan on doing Hostel II either, so I don’t want to say never but right now there’s Hostel I and Hostel II and that’s it. And maybe if I’m inspired by some idea for Hostel III I’ll do it at some point down the road [...]

[16.08.2006] CS! meldet...
Lauren German, Heather Matarazzo and Bijou Phillips are in talks to star in Hostel 2, which Eli Roth is directing for Lionsgate.
The sequel follows three women who, while studying abroad for the summer, learn the grim truth behind the Slovakian hostel and its international counterparts.
The Hollywood Reporter says German would play a wealthy girl trying to figure out her next step in life, Phillips would be her best friend and Matarazzo will be a tag-along.

[07.07.2006] CS! meldet...
Writer-director Eli Roth tells Production Weekly that he will begin production on Hostel 2 this September in Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Karlovy Vary and other locations around the Czech Republic. Some scenes will also be shot at Barrandov Studios, and other places, like Rome and possibly Slovakia.
Reiterating that the sequel would focus on three females, he added that it will be darker than the original. "The first 'Hostel' is a journey into hell that starts off fun," he said. "Part 2 is going to start off scary and stay creepy all the way through. I want it to feel like the movie is going to pick up on the next cut, as if you could watch the two movies back-to-back and it would be a three-hour movie. There will be some new things thrown in there but it has to look and feel like that movie.
Roth also confirmed plans to direct Cell, an adaptation of the Stephen King bestseller, for The Weinstein Company, with production starting in spring 2007.

[12.06.2006] MTV.com sprach mit Eli Roth über das Sequel... SPOILER !!!
[...] "I'm writing 'Hostel 2' for girls - it's going to be three girls this time," he revealed. "They're studying in Italy for the summer, and they get lured, and they go back to ... well, we're going to go back to a lot of familiar places."
Through the existence of this Italian hostel, Roth plans to reveal that the Slovakian stopover from the first flick is actually part of a chain - kinda like a Motel 6, but with decapitations instead of a continental breakfast.
"It's all part of the organization; they've got the whole thing set up all over the place, and they have different scouts," Roth said. "We're going to learn a lot more about how it all works. In 'Hostel 2,' you're really going to see the ins and outs of the whole organization and how they get people and kill them.
"And there will be plenty of blood and torture," he added with a sadistic grin. "I can tell you that."
"Hostel" didn't leave a lot of actors' story lines open for sequel possibilities, but Jay Hernandez did survive - at least, most of him did. Roth happily reported that Hernandez's Paxton has been written into the film and will be encountering the three girls in Italy.
"Jay has a few less fingers, so it might be difficult for him to blend in," the director said. "But yeah, he's not out of the woods yet."
Roth's script begins the moment the original "Hostel" left off, a tribute to the similarly timed second chapters of his beloved "Halloween" and "Porky's."
" 'Hostel 2' is going to start literally with the next cut, and you're going to see [Paxton] at the same time. You'll see that he's totally messed-up from the experience. It's completely wrecked him, and his life is in ruins."
Hernandez will express his mental collapse in some of the tossing-and-turning scenes Roth is composing.
"You know, when they have a sequel, and you see the guy and he's having nightmares and can't sleep and is going crazy," the filmmaker said, sounding as if Hernandez might finally turn into the villain Roth wanted him to become in an early draft of the original flick.
Although he has spent most of the last few weeks alone, Roth has made time to once again solicit some advice from an equally twisted mind.
"Quentin [Tarantino] was really helpful when I told him the story idea. I was like, 'What do you think about this?' and he's like, 'Oh man, what if we did it with girls?,' " Roth said of the "Hostel" producer. "I saw Quentin last night, and we started to talk about some different death scenes, and anytime I'm like, 'Oh, what if we killed someone like this?,' he's got three other different ways to kill them. When he reads the script, it inspires a bunch of things."
Roth hopes to begin shooting in August and to release the film in January 2007. [...]

[02.05.2006] Blickpunkt:Film berichtet über die deutschen Kinocharts...

MEGA-SPOILER !!!
[...] Roth plans to cut himself off from the outside world to begin writing a 'Hostel' sequel this week, recapturing the hermitlike existence that helped him pen the first film.
"I've got to write it," he said. "I've been doing a world tour with 'Hostel,' doing press. It has been opening in every other country, and I have been making notes. But [this week] I am really going to unplug my phone, shut off my e-mail, and write the script. And we are going to shoot it this summer." [...]
Roth said even he doesn't know where "Hostel II" could take him, but he does know one thing: It will start immediately after the final scene of the first film.
"I want to pick up and continue in the story exactly where the last one left off," the director said. "Other than 'Porky's II: The Next Day,' you don't really see that many movies where they pick up at the moment where the last one stopped. I really want it to feel like a part one and a part two more than a sequel." [...]

[25.01.2006] Bei Empire Movies (7/10) und DH (2/4) gibt es Kritiken...

[10.01.2006] Cinema Blend meldet...
When a movie makes back four times its budget in just its opening weekend, you’d better believe there’s going to be a sequel. Hostel hasn’t even been in theaters a week, but Lions Gate is already lining up the movie’s director for another round.
No, that doesn’t mean they’re negotiating with Quentin Tarantino for another. Though the advertising might lead you to believe Hostel is a Tarantino film, his name attachment is little more than a cheap marketing gimmick. Cabin Fever’s Eli Roth is the man behind the horror and Variety says he’s already in talks with LG and Screen Gems to do a Hostel 2.
Taking a cue from Lions Gate’s other big-money horror franchise Saw, their plan is to release the next edition a year after the first. So expect it around January next year.
The film’s producers are also in talks to return for Hostel 2, but who knows if that includes QT, who was really just an executive producer on the thing anyway. I wonder if they’ll also include Harry Knowles in their sequel negotiations, since he says that like just about everything successful that happens in Hollywood, the whole thing was his idea in the first place. [...]

[08.01.2006] Swissinfo.org meldet...

[...] This is a very scary and more than that, disturbing film. Personally - I haven’t been all that happy with the selling of the film. They are selling this movie like a snuff flick - sadly apparently that is how you appeal to America’s audience for horror. You’re not getting any of the set up for the film. There’s nothing to give you a sense of the MIDNIGHT EXPRESS terror that’s to come.
Eli has made a film that is absolutely brutal and oddly brilliant in how he took that initial premise and made a film that is very much a moralistic study of our own amorality and the inevitable day that those in pursuit of that next big kick will find their own exploitation and their own nightmares realized in payment.
Disney told this tale with PINOCCHIO. [...]
