FILME A-Z

April 2010 erschien "Little Ashes" hierzulande auf DVD & Blu-ray, in dem Robert Pattinson (u.a.

Weitere "Dali"-Projekte...
Ein offizielles "Dali"-Biopic ist bei Imagine Entertainment in Vorbereitung... In "Dali & I: The Surreal Story" sollte Al Pacino (u.a. "Scarface") den Künstler verkörpern, mit einem Augenmerk auf den Ausverkauf der Kunst...
Und dann wäre da noch "Dali" unter der Regie von Simon West mit Antonio Banderas (u.a. "Desperado") in der Titelrolle...

[20.03.2012] Deadline meldet...
Imagine Entertainment will develop a feature based on the life of legendary surrealist artist Salvador Dalí, with Paige Cameron writing the script. Brian Grazer will produce and Imagine’s Anna Culp will be executive producer along with Cameron.
The Spanish painter lived from 1904 to 1989 and achieved international renown for his unique twists on visual reality, and for a flamboyantly high-profile social life. Cameron’s script will focus on his influences on art, cinema and fashion, and his tumultuous marriage to his equally vivid wife, Gala. Grazer said Cameron presented a plan for movie that made Dali’s life cinematically exciting.
"We are impressed by Paige’s knowledge of Salvador Dalí’s art and his life, as well as by her insights and her storytelling skill," Grazer said. This is the only Dalí project endorsed by the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation, which will provide Cameron exclusive access to archives, letters, and other materials. The Foundation is a private non-profit organization created by Dalí himself in 1983 to manage his estate.
Said Foundation managing director Joan Manuel Sevillano: "The Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation’s interest in a biographical film has always been limited to one that would involve an A-list team. We are delighted to have this project in the hands of Imagine, a production company whose taste and exacting standards of execution are in keeping with Dalí’s legacy, as well as Paige Cameron, a screenwriter we admire and trust." [04.12.2008] Ein "Little Ashes" Trailer ist online...

[06.11.2008] Variety.com meldet...
Antonio Banderas is in final negotiations to play Salvador Dali in the Simon West-helmed indie biopic "Dali."
Media 8 Entertainment ("Monster") is producing alongside West's shingle, which has been developing the project since 2003, when West optioned the feature film rights to Jeremy Walters' spec script for low- to mid-six figures.
Film will blend music with CGI sequences in an effort to capture the inventiveness and color of the painter. Story will explore how Dali conquered America and the world with sex, sin and surrealism only to succumb later to worldwide scandal and misfortune.
At least two other Dali biopics are in the works: Al Pacino is attached to play the artist in "Dali & I: The Surreal Story," with Andrew Niccol directing; and "Twilight's" Robert Pattinson stars as Dali in the upcoming "Little Ashes," which chronicles the young life and loves of the painter as well as filmmaker Luis Bunuel and writer Federico Garcia Lorca.
West is producing "Dali" alongside Jib Polhemus ("Lara Croft: Tomb Raider"). Media 8 is handling worldwide sales, with pre-sales beginning this week at the American Film Market.
Media 8 has already sold the film in Eastern Europe to Revolutionary Releasing, which is comprised of some of the territory's leading companies, including Monolith, Blitz, Bonton, Forum and MediaPro.
West added that the project will focus not only on Dali's outrageous lifestyle but his lifelong love affair with Gala, his wife, muse and manipulative manager.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2009 in Spain and England. The film will be an international co-production.

[13.09.2007] THR.com meldet...
Cillian Murphy is stocking up on his paint brushes in order to star opposite Al Pacino in "Dali & I: The Surreal Story" for Room 9 Entertainment. Andrew Niccol is directing while Room 9 partners David O. Sacks, Daniel Brunt and Michael R. Newman produce.
The movie, which will span the 1960s-80s, follows the time in Dali's life when most of his great work was behind him and he became more flamboyant. Dali (Pacino) also developed a mentor-protege relationship with a young art dealer named Stan Lauryssens, who will be played by Murphy.
The part of Gala, Dali's wife, has yet to be cast.
Room 9 originally acquired the project as a spec written by John Salvati, based on Lauryssens' autobiographical book "Dali and I." Niccol rewrote the script.
"Dali" is scheduled to begin shooting in early 2008 on location in Spain and New York. [...]

[19.01.2007] CS! meldet...
Al Pacino will play artist Salvador Dali in Dali & I: The Surreal Story, with Andrew Niccol directing, says Variety. Room 9 Entertainment has set a June start date in New York and Spain.
Niccol, who previously directed Pacino in S1m0ne, is rewriting a John Salvati-scripted adaptation of the Stan Lauryssen book "Dali and I." The film is produced by Room 9 partners David O. Sacks, Daniel Brunt and Michael R. Newman, who are coming off Thank You for Smoking.
The film covers the latter days of Dali and Niccol said that was when the surrealist painter decided to take his career in a most surreal direction.

[03.11.2006] HollywoodReporter.com meldet...
Andrew Niccol is attached to direct "Dali & I: The Surreal Story," a film from Room 9 Entertainment about Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali that will serve as the company's follow-up to the successful political satire "Thank You for Smoking."
Room 9 originally acquired "Dali" as a spec written by John Salvati, based on Stan Lauryssens' autobiographical book "Dali and I." Niccol is doing a rewrite on the script and the company is eyeing a shoot next spring.
Room 9's David O. Sacks, Daniel Brunt and Michael R. Newman will produce.
The movie will cover the life of Dali through the eyes of Lauryssens, a young art dealer who knew Dali and his wife Gala. The movie will span the 1960s-1980s, covering Dali's later period when most of this great work was behind him while he became more flamboyant, and focusing on a mentor-protege relationship between Dali and Lauryssens.
"What I think is interesting about this period in his life is that he painted less and sold more, just as modern art became more commercialized," said Sacks. "There are pictures of him turning his mustache into dollar signs. He became very obsessed by money and this was spurred on by Gala."
Gala, a Russian immigrant 11 years his senior, was his muse and inspiration and the artist was very dependent on her though their relationship was tempestuous.
"We don't want to do another artist biopic," said Sacks. "We want this to ask questions like 'What is modern art? Does it have value? Is it worth the millions of dollars that people are paying for?' "
"Dali" will be overseen at Room 9 by Brunt and Newman, who were both promoted to partnership positions at the company. They now serve as co-presidents and will continue building a slate of films that they will develop and produce with Sacks. Sacks remains CEO of the company, as well as a financial backer.
Niccol is the filmmaker behind "Gattaca," "Simone" and last year's "Lord of War." He also wrote "The Truman Show," which garnered him an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay. He is repped by CAA and attorney John LaViolette.
